Newbie In Lincs
« on: September 07, 2019, 09:50:28 am »
Hi folks,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I've just bought my second K1300S - a 2015 Motorsport edition with just 3200 miles on the clock and a ton of accessories including full Akrapovic carbon exhaust, hugger, front mudguard and seat cowl. It's also got a BMW TFT display. My previous model was a 2011 one in orange. I added 14000 miles to this over four years, so know what I am taking on. My view is that these bikes, properly looked after, are going to become collectors pieces. First impressions of the new bike is that it breathes just a little bit more easily, turns in just a little bit quicker and of course has all the Motorsport additions.

Looking forward to getting more acquainted with my bike over the next few weeks and possibly meeting up with any other K1200/1300 owners in Lincolnshire.

Regards

Hello and welcome from an ex MotorSport owner.  Great bikes and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Welcome Noctonlincs, a fine choice of bikes!
I followed almost the same trajectory - a 2011 bike for 4 years & put 28k miles on it, and then bought a 2015 Motorsport last year with 7k miles.

My thought process was in, rapid succession - they've stopped making them - I like them enough that I want the latest - oh, they're virtually all Motorsport versions - oh well, it gives me a choice to try all those extras bits - oh I've bought one. I'm not regretting it.

I find the Motorsport parts don't make a lot of difference other than sharper looks, but I'm a fairly insensitve soul. I think you're right about possibly slightly more powerful, better brakes (and more vibes, but that may have be down to mileage since the vibrations are easing off now at 18k miles).

Interesting to hear what you think of the TFT display - never used those. They're quite rare.

Thanks for the messages of welcome.

Not sure that the Motorsport brakes are any different to my previous model - I think it's more a question of it being a newer bike, less mileage etc. What I have noticed is that the Akrapovic exhaust seems to be less restrictive, even against the non-standard GPR exhaust fitted on my old bike. Plus it makes a lovely sound!

The TFT display is actually quite easy to use and is certainly easier when looking at the speed reading! I must admit that there are functions on here that I am not clear about and I need to spend a little bit of time on the internet researching this.

I can't say that I've noticed any extra vibration. I know that on my old bike there was some vibration around the 6500 - 7500 mark but in truth I love that low down torque and tend to keep it below 6000 revs. I never red lined my old bike and in truth I don't think I would have the ability to push it to its absolute limit.

All in all, it's a cracking looking machine, and certainly turns a few heads.

Happy to post a couple of pictures but I must admit that I'm not entirely sure how to do this. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Take a look at the How To section

I've created a list of ways to do it. Each has a simple guide:

No. Just the right amount, if you leave the baffle in. 8)
Other opinions are available.

(Baffle out means double the noise - according to my crude noise meter - aka smartphone).

Cool thanks, maybe I,m just getting used to how quiet the titanium is compared to the carbon akra on my old k1200s.
That was a loud bugger lol

Hi Mark and welcome to the madhouse that is EuroKClub!

You'll find the torque really comes into its own on those long Lincolnshire hills and the pops on the overrun will be heard in the mext valley but one  ;D
