Good afternoon, my name is George and I hail from Australia.  I have just recently purchased a 2010 K1300 R SE WITH 13K on the clock.  Very good overall condition and seems to have been treated reasonably well over the past 10 years.

Loving it so far, much faster than my R9T Racer but totally different in a good way.  I was hoping to do some long distance touring on the K1300, hence the reason to purchase.

I hope my experience with the K does not become a horror story.  It has all the paperwork and services and recalls done and some other warranty work (RDC sensors, heated grips).

The research I did prior to purchase was an eye opener.  Unfortunately there is no extended warranty with a used motorcycle in Victoria.

Not much else to say except, fingers crossed I will be OK.  Beautiful bike and I would like to keep it.

Regards
George

Welcome George.
The BMW extended warranty may still be available to you, check the Motorrad website.

Having checked the BMW Oz site it seems that the extended warranty as we know it in the UK is not available in Australia although they do have a comprehensive breakdown cover.

Doesn’t surprise me at all about the extended warranty.  I have 3 years warranty and road side assistance with my Nine T and I was going to inquire as to what it would cost to add the K1300 to the list.  All I can do is ask.

Thanks for the assistance

Hi George and welcome to the madhouse that is EuroKClub  8)

This isn't meant to put the downer on your ownership but what are the breakers like in Oz? We are lucky in UK with two excellent breakers. I guess the demographic in Oz is totally different from here in Europe.

Good luck and enjoy the upcoming winter months...Brian

Thank you Brian

I have found one in Victoria that appears to be quite reasonable.  Mainly boxer stuff.  I was kind of hoping not to make his acquaintance for a little while.

In any event the bike is probably worth more dead than alive, its in good nick and has not been down the long hard road.

Fingers crossed.

We can ride here in winter!!!

Regards George

Hello and welcome.
The extended W is only available in UK.
The special edition bikes due to Australian regulations wish require special metals used for valves and other parts not alowing other, have an excellent reputation regarding longevity.
At 10 years only Sensors and grips is a fairly good deal.

Thank you Costas
Apologies for the late reply.  I had not heard of anything special for Australian delivered bikes.  I must research and see what I can find out. The K13 that I bought only has 13,900 Kms on the clock and is original apart from an abundance of carbon fibre.  I was actually a little surprised that the heated grips needed replacing at about 9000Kms.  In any case the bike is great and apart for a clunky gearbox, its fantastic (I suspect the clutch here).  I will keep you posted on its reliability.
Thanks for the welcome.
Regards
George

If the clunk in the gearbox is just when going into 1st, fear not, they really do all do that  8)

If you hold the clutch in for several seconds before engaging first gear it reduces and sometimes eliminates the clunk.

Thanks for the feedback.  Changed the oil today with Castrol 5w40 Power racing.  Well, what can I say, transformed the bike, no clunking, no noises, just smooth gear changes.  Night and day really.  The oil hadn’t been changed for 2.5 years and 3,000Kms.  Obviously it needed it.  The bike is brand new again.  I cannot believe the Difference. I feel good.

If the bike was bought from a dealer there is excellent Australian consumer law that covers second hand vehicles. It is good enough to negate the dealership extended warranties and also applies to any new vehicle.
It’s so nice to be insane. No one asks you to explain
