Sold the XR - R1250GSA coming
« on: January 28, 2019, 04:51:24 pm »
I have had the XR for 9 months but for some reason I have never got on with the handling  :-\. The thing is bloody fast, but whether it was me, the tyres or whatever, I could never get it around corners like I thought I would. The number of times I have run wide on a corner going down country roads is embarrassing. For someone who rides his K16GT like an R6 I thought the XR would be fun, but it just doesn’t suit me.

I toyed with a Multistrada or KTM SDGT, but test rode a 1250GSA and was really surprised. I said on a different post how nice the TFT screen is but the engine now feels just like, well, an engine. Not particularly sporty, but 135hp is getting there and more than my old GSXRs used to have, and it is dead smooth. That coupled with going back to my favourite Telelever/Paralever combination that K bikes have and I felt immediately at home.

I was offered a pretty good deal for a GSA in HP colours (a bit loud for some), but opted for Vario panniers instead of the big metal things, and a standard GS rack rather that the GSA one. Quite looking forward to getting it now:

A nice looking bit of kit.

I swapped my LC for an XR in August and like it very much - under gearing apart.

I've avoided riding the 1250 deliberately though - suspect it'll only be a matter of time before I give in.

Yours looks great - enjoy!

Very nice, I did look at them before getting the 1200 GS and the extra power is good, enjoy.

I do like the look of that and am tempted myself for something a bit more comfortable for my long legs

I must admit that this is the first generation of the GS that could tempt me.

I'm reticent about being an early adopter again after buying an early K12 and am wary of the first gen VVT.
That said, a test ride is definitely in the near future.

I'm apparently in the minority and actually like the gold wheels.
Particularly on an Exclusive.

Those gold wheels look fab compared to the plumbing outside the first bike in the thread. The Pompidou Centre comes to mind.
In fact gold wheels, gold forks, gold suspension and gold brake calipers are always OK.
But a gold bike? That's wrong. Weird isn't it. Gold is just for the detail in life. That's what I've told Ms Cashmere anyway.

So, which wheels are you getting, reverse spoked or cast alloy? Either way, a complete bugger to clean.

And if you ever drop a GS, the Pompidou Centre will come in very handy...don't ask  :o

The Exclusive comes with black mag wheels as standard - those photos are all "specials"  :(

Yeah, straight forward swaps though.

I don't think I've ever had a 'standard' bike in my life. :)
