Well I finally bit the bullet and shaved 2-3mm off the cam chain guide to prevent the oil leak from cam cover I haven’t tried it yet as only managed to refit cover tonight. Hope to fit radiator later this week. I was a bit limited as to what I could use to do this but it was worth a try.

All sorted now and cooling system bled.  It was the cam chain guide being too long. Shaving some of it 2-3mm sorted it out and gasket sit nicely and flush and no leak.

What next !

Agreed, but what a cock-up by BMW, coming up with a cure for the dreaded camchain jump (caused by a design fault meaning the chain went slack on start up in the first place due to the tensioner losing oil, mainly when sat on the sidestand) which then causes the guide to sit too high causing seal damage and an oil leak.

Having never had reason to dive into the clutch on the K13 (that's doomed me), I always thought that the jump guard was only a K12 sticking plaster. Mine had it fitted by Bahnstormer along with the later, taller, tensioner.

So do all K13's have the jump guard fitted as standard?

2012. Well, that was when it was retrofitted to my K12S, so I guess we all have them lurking in the bowels with chain guides just waiting to nerf the cam cover gasket, like when mine goes in for its 18,000 service... :winkthumbs:

Saga continues

Just shaved more of the chain guide so is flush with the top of the head.  All back together now and water added but have not started it yet.  I wanted to check the breather pipes. Found they had mayonnaise in them but not excessive.

Has anyone actually had the two hoses block up what did you do?  What was the symptoms.

Looks like a coronary artery blockage. Get 'em off and give them a good clean I'm guessing.

I’m going have a go tomorrow awkward to get off.  I may start it with them off and see what pressure there is.
