Ok I have to be honest except for the reliability or more accurately unreliability of the K1300GT i have and do love riding this bike and the one I had before. I also have been scathing of the boxer bikes and did not want to go near following some rides on the GS both old and new.

however my arthritic hips and general lack of muscle and flexibility have had me harping for a lighter bike.

so when my mate said he was going up to Lloyd's BMW to test ride the S1000XR I thought I would follow. when there i thought i would try the r1200rt that they had been saying was perfect for me so they were happy to let me take it out however they then remembered that it was going to be ridden by another person so I agreed to ride a bike I never thought I would bother with the R1200RS. MY knees a little more bent but there is the sport seat that feels like wood but is more comfortable on the knees. I learnt about something called a quick shifter bloody loved it. the bike was light (well lighter than mine by a long way) torquey so fun to ride and seemed to me that it would make a fantastic one person tourer. I loved it so now will have to see if there is a nearly new one with all the toys for a good price. will I miss being able to do 150mph no not a jot.

did try the S100XR and did not get on with it, very vibey and who would put mirrors in the place they are. my mate loved it and today has bought one!!!

Hi

I have not done this route for some years, remember having to take my own tie downs as they were not good on board and spare gloves to protect my seat. Is it still the case or has it got better?

Thanks

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Instrument Panel
« on: October 21, 2016, 01:59:59 pm »
Hi

Now I am one of those people that doesn't read or understand manuals so need help. The panel lights on the panel of my K 1300GT go on and off. Is this normal and has it anything to do with night and day and rain and there is some automatic sensor that makes it come on and off.

or is it just faulty??

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Plastic clip
« on: March 24, 2016, 06:13:37 pm »
took my K1300GT in today for its 18000 miles service, got a call to say that there was an issue with an outlet hose and plastic clip which was faulty and could have spilled oil out under pressure. asked them to fix it and they told me that they needed to send for the part to Germany and it would take 4 or 5 days.

is this a problem anyone else has had? the bike is just over 5 years old and has only done 17000 miles. I am happy that it is picked up though at a service.

Praise or Shame / Is it Me
« on: April 18, 2015, 05:08:56 pm »
this is not really a moan at Alan Jefferies but just my thoughts, bought the bike K1300GT EE in February, I know i said I would never buy another BMW and to buy the same bike!!! Washed it and the paint came off in two lumps on the shaft drive and contact them. AJ were good and said they would either touch up the paint work for free or redo the whole shaft drive which would cost £250 and they would do this 50/50 so I would only pay £125. Thought this was best option and nice of them, also they asked if I wanted a complimentary bike and I said yes.

so today went down the 97 miles and handed over my bike and paid the £125. then had thoughts would the real cost be £125 and all they are doing is not making a profit on this. Then I was told, for the first time, about the "cost" of the complimentary bike. well it is free if you are happy with a £1000 excess, however some bugger could hit me on the bike and i would be £1000 short and of course the paint problem not my fault and should be BMW responsibility.

however for only £15 per day I could reduce the excess to £250, ok 8 days as only able to go back the next Saturday and the complimentary bike is costing me £120. To be fair Dan at AJ said he could put me on for one day then when bike was tucked up in garage revert to free insurance and then put back on £15 for day it is returned

well I was told that probably they would have a delivery and could return it which would save me money when I spoke to them on phone now talking to Dan it is a possibility so who knows.

I am not aiming this at AJ as I presume all BMW dealers do this but if I had known I would have got a mate to pick me up. sometime a free offer is not so free

K1200 / K1300 Forum / remove fairing
« on: March 02, 2015, 07:25:03 pm »
I have a K1300GT and as a naturally lazy person I don't want to remove more of the fairings than I have to. can I remove the small fairing with the K1300GT "badge" on the left side of the bike (when sitting on it) without removing the main fairing?

thanks Graham

well one of my favourite areas for biking is the Picos de Europe national park in North Spain. This place is run by two english people Gwen and John and is about 5 kilometres outside Potes so if you want to eat out every night then you will need to ride in or get a taxi. However John cooks the best dinners in the region and the bar is always open (well much of the time).

If you want a stop off or explore the area then Neil and Anne are great hosts. Neil is always happy to show you the roads and organises days for both spa and Nurburgring which are both close.

the guest house is not posh but is worth it for the the crack and rides
