Why 'particularly the 2 wheeled variety..' ?

Round here its the Youfs in their Vauxhall Nova's with big bore exhausts that are the source of most road noise.

They always seemed normal sized to me!     ;)

Obviously there are risks around location and sensitivity settings accidently catching "innocent" people that will need to be mitigated but, in principle,  this seems to be a really good use for automated law enforcement.  Whatever the type of vehicle making excessive noise, it should be prosecuted!

They could do auto-bans for bikes with top boxes. That'll clear the roads in and around Paris in about two days  :D

As/if it grows in popularity it will be interesting to see what private enterprise comes up with to help end users.

I.e. many people have non-OEM exhausts and will want to know before getting points and prizes whether they are in the danger zone. Phone sound meters are obviously inaccurate, and so perhaps something akin to the cheap breathalyzers will come into existence. A once specialist expensive bit of kit becomes a cheap accessible bit of kit. Or maybe it would be just a service, or rolled into MOT finally.

Who knows. The exhaust suppliers might include a small addition in the end of the pipe and perhaps call it a baffle or a DB killer?  Users may even leave them in!

I'm sure that the 'noisy' bikes in France are a reaction to the power limits, 'it might not be powerful or fast but it sure sounds like it is'... ::)

Pretty certain that for a legal Euro4 (or Euro5) exhaust the baffle cannot be removable. Some manufacturers are making them this way such as Akrapovic, but others seem to be flouting this - or are just re-using older designs.

Well indeed, and there are thousands of used bikes out there with or without baffles long lost. We are the special few, I think! :)

Yep, newer stuff will be more simple, though will akra say the maximum dB for the exhaust? Hopefully, I suppose it isn't difficult for them.

Some still sell straight through headers though, which shirley will always be getting a bit noisy.

That's a good point. On the S1000RR/R/XR for example the end can is straight through as standard, all the baffling is in the downpipes and cow gut under the engine.

Oh mine arrived! Their site has editions with fixed/spot welded, and removable. For mine anyway.

All K loonatics here remove the baffle from acra immediately upon delivery (some years ago mow.) A practise still very common on new models with acra. Still the bike passes with a note the MOT.
The basic can has the baffle incorporated inside and not in a separate box as many believe, for example on S (underbelly) or R (before exhaust valve)  models.
Embrace the wind.
