Hello guys, I have a problem with the centre stand on my bike. When I bought it last year I never looked at the stand, when did use it I noticed the bike was sitting at an angle, it was because the foot pedal for the stand was actually sitting on the floor and not the stand leg.
I am going to cut off the foot pedal and reposition it, can anybody tell me how far off the floor the foot pedal should be when it's down, I:e the gap between the pedal and floor.
I think it must be an after market jobby, the paint on it is poor too so while it's off I'll have it epoxied.
I made myself a Heck lifter when I noticed the stand needed attention.
Regards. Mick

Mine is the genuine BMW stand and it sits on all three points, the two feet and the prong of the foot lever.
It is my understanding that it is meant to sit on all three points and it is the prong on the foot lever that stops the bike moving too far backward and/or the stand moving too far forward. There are no good hard stops on the mountings to stop the stand moving too far forward when it is down..
When I first fitted the stand to my K12S I managed to get the left hand mounting in the wrong place and the whole thing felt wobbly and the bike leaned to the left. It was then that I realised what I'd done wrong. In my defence, the BMW instructions are crap.
Oh, and so is the paint finish so it could easily be the genuine item.
Before you chop the prong I would investigate further on the mountings because the whole thing could collapse if it does indeed need all three points on the ground.

Thanks for that Brian, sounds like it could well be a genuine stand. Mine leans to the right when it's on the stand, the foot prong is touching the floor when the bikes on the stand but there's about a 2mm gap under the left leg of the stand.
I'll have it off and check the pivots.
Best regards. Mick

You’re only 25 miles from me and most unusually I am around this weekend (time off for bad behaviour ::) ) as well as all day, every weekday....sad I know!
If you want to compare notes/stands and take a peek at my installation instructions (of course I kept them...) drop me a pm and we can meet up.
-
That's good of you Brian, it's a great ride to Doms bike stop from here we could meet there for a coffee an a buttie on Saturday morning if you like. I need to wear out my rear tyre so I can have new one before Knockhill in a couple of weeks, I don't think it has a trip to Scotland And back in it.
Best regards Mick

Don't forget, if it's windy Doms might not be open ;D
-
As one who doesn't 'do' mornings (or breakfasts) I shall consider it a very late Friday night meet up.
Never actually been inside Dom's, the Wrinklies tried to get in there a couple of years ago but he were 'ferme' exceptionelle' as they say. Obviously knew we were coming...
What did the wind have to do with it Rae...all went over my head I'm afraid.
What disgusting hour of the morning did you have in mind?
Any more for any more?

That's why he was closed, because of the wind, or was it because he had wind.

Easy going here, lunch time or afternoon is ok for us. I suggested Doms because I saw you were based in Ledbury and it's a great ride, but if you'd prefer somewhere else that's cool.

We could compromise and make it elevenses, at say, eleven?
Dom's is good and it means I don't need to find my passport to get back into England ;D
I'll take a copy of the stand installation instructions so you can see what should be what and look forward to trying to find you in the melee...
Brian

Cheers Brian, see you at eleven on Saturday.
I'll pm you my number.
Best regards. Mick

I'm near Stratford on Avon so might pop along too. I don't do early mornings either and I fear Dad's taxi service might be required in the morning too, so it's just a maybe. Mine has a genuine BMW centre stand that I fitted, sits on the lug as well but doesn't have a noticeable lean.
-
It could be a stand fest...
-
I'd join StandFest but I'm busy Saturrday morning.

After checking Brians and Andys stands , It appears my stand is an aftermarket job and not such a good one either. Brian pointed out some faults with it and I decided to see if I could get a genuine BM one. Blade Motorad at Rubery in Birmingham quoted £170. Cheapest on the net £140 plus postage from Germany, so it might be a case of some remodelling of the one I have.
Many thanks to Brian and Andy for taking the time to help. regards mick

BMW ownership doesn't come cheap :)
-
And, to be fair, the stock stand is a quality item. Mine gets used so often I think I'm down to about a penny a use now. Cheap compared to new panels...
-
Hello guys , the stand is sorted now. I didn't buy a BMW one, a new rear tyre was needed and that soaked up the £170 so I had the bike up on the revamped bench and sorted the problem.
The stand was a Mocheck unit and the problem was that the stand pivoted on the top hat nut and as it was raised onto the centre stand it the friction was loosening the nut allowing the stand to become loose. A new countersunk bolt instead of a set pin and a lock nut has sorted it.
It's now at the finishers being done Satin black.
Best regards Mick

Result. Bloody designers, I shit em!!!
-
And on top of that, when I took the rear wheel off two of the wheel bolts were loose and the other three were just nipped up.
All torqued up now and I'll check them regularly.
Best regards. Mick
-
Wow!!!
-
They NEVER come loose...
I wouldn't bother checking them, but I'd spend the time checking every other bolt on the bike, including the calipers, engine mounts (carefully and in accordance with the manual) and the front wheel spindle and lock bolts (carefully, cos the lock bolts seize and strip easily).

Maintenance by that famous Chinese dealership Ho Lee Fuk :o
-
Cheers guys, I did check all the bolts I could see, the bike had new tyres just before I bought it a year ago, the front will need replacing when we get back from Knockhill next week so I'll have to take care when doing that.
Brian where do I find the torque values and sequence for the engine mounting bolts?
Best regards. Mick.
-
In the reprom.
-
Cheers Tom, didn't know what a reprom was !!! do now,, got one, just have to get a windows PC to be able to read it .
Thank you Best regards Mick
-
It will run on a VirtualBox VM on Linux or OS X. Happy to set that up for you if need it.
-
Thanks for the offer Andy. My kind little girl has given me a windows laptop so hopefully I'm sorted.
Best regards. Mick

Or, if you had searched on 'Engine bolts', you'd have found it here...

...and the next one down from Costas ;D
-
Thanks for that Brian, I needed a disc anyway, I've tried every fastener I can see and all seems good,
Went out Saturday and scrubbed the new rear in but while we were out the Bluetooth module packed up. Nipped over to Chainspeed and picked up one of theirs, much better than the Autocom unit. And £10 cheaper, I've even had to turn the volume down on the tomtom.
Brain, you were going to send me the info for the speed camera database.
Best regards. Mick
-
Sorry about the speed camera database stuff Mick! I put it in a general post here...

...so everyone could see it; obviously that didn't work ::)

Hello guys, the stands back on and perfect now, epoxy coated satin black cost a tenner. The back wheel is about 25mm off the floor and there's a gap under the foot pedal of about 10mm.
Best regards. Mick

Good to hear. How about a picture.
Are your wheels bolts tight???
