Wrinklies Chasing The Sun 1/2/3 June 2015
« on: February 28, 2015, 01:03:17 pm »
After much plotting and planning I have come up with this.
Wrinklies Chasing The Sun map

Wrinklies Garmin File gpx

Wrinklies Tomtom File itn

This is a point to point map and not the actual route we will take, but it will give you an idea. Google doesn't let me add enough points to the map.
I have a more detailed route if anyone wants it just email me and I will send it. (let me know which format you want ie; Garmin or Tomtom)
There is a Premier Inn at Lowestoft
http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/LOWFOX/lowestoft 1 Night here on Monday 1st June 2015 Don't book breakfast
With rooms at £39 at the moment.
Aberystwyth has a large selection of hotels. Does anyone have any recommendations.
I have found this one just out of town, I know there are lots in town.
Link for Richmond Hotel
http://www.richmondhotel.uk.com/  1 Night here on Tuesday 2nd June 2015
We are going with these two hotels.
Anyone wishing to join in please book the hotels and let us know.
I will post up timings for the ride later.

It will be a fairly early start from the Premier Inn 6.45am ish on the Tuesday Morning
I'll work out the times for the stops later so that those joining us will know where to be at what time.

Here are the time estimates for those wishing to join us along the way
7.00 am                      Leave Ness Point
8.30am-9.15am           Red Lodge Cafe    (breakfast here)
11.25am-12.05am       Willoughby Cafe
1.45pm-2.30pm           Dom's Bike Stop
3.45pm-4.15pm           Devils Bridge
4.40pm                       Aberystwyth

I would ask that anyone meeting up with us at any of the stopping point to be early rather than late please. Please let me know who is coming, so that if we are ahead of schedule we wont be waiting for someone that isn't going to turn up.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

This has the makings of a great trip so get you bookings in and please let us know when you have booked, so that I know who to expect.

HUSSAR well done Rae I am a happy bunny type person now.

Route looks good and the interesting twisty bits look even better. I'll probably link up with you other folks at Leominster as it's a straight run for me down the A49, at Dom's Bike stop (anyone know more about this place never been there myself).

The Aberpark hotel looks ok it's on the new link road that eventually brings you back into town so it would be convenient to get to from the A4120 Looks like it has everything you need the parking is open though although we should be able to secure the bikes together. Most of the hotels in town are not renowned for their parking facilities. Could always grab taxis if we wanted to get into town later although the Aberpark does have a bar and restaurant. I suppose it really does depend on how knackered folks are. Oh and there is a supermarket and a McDonalds close by.

Devil's Bridge, by the way, was featured in a detective/crime series last year (BBC2) called Hinterland a lot of the students from the uni. got parts as extras. It was filmed in two version one all in Welsh and the other in mainly English with subtitles when they spoke Welsh. We thought it was pretty good with interesting characters and fairly plausible plots. One of the actors in the Devil's Bridge episode was chucked off the bridge in a rather ignominious fashion!

The Richmond Hotel on the promenade has a garage around the back - myself and a group of friends do a trip every year to Aberwysywig and we can get about 8 bikes in there.

Yep, the route looks fine to me.

Brian (who did look, but he kept his eyes shut  8) )

PS I like the sound of the hotel in town with the garage; cheaper than paying for a bedroom!

My thinking was Brian that everyone would book their own accommodation and keep things simple.

OK. So, for the simple-minded among us, do we have an itinerary?

Who meets where & when, when we depart etc. Just so I don't book a room for the night after you all leave.

have booked the Premier Inn Lowestoft and the Richmond in Aberystwyth. I booked the Richmond through their own website as Booking.com had no rooms left. So if you are thinking of coming and wish to stay at the Richmond I would get your bookings in soon.
I did not book breakfast at the Premier Inn as the breakfast is served from 6.30am which is a bit of a rush so I plan to have breakfast at our first stop Red Lodge.
