K1200 / K1300 Forum / Paint bubbling under front mudguard fixings
« on: May 02, 2023, 07:02:08 pm »
Is this a common problem where the paint is bubbling around the fixings for the front mudguard? Eventually it'll cause problems I suspect. Would the extended warranty deal with this sort of thing? If not, what is the fix?

The Euro K Club Lounge / How many gloves?
« on: March 29, 2023, 03:24:20 pm »
While I was hanging about in my garage while a guy repaired a car tyre with a screw in it, I mooched about and did a bit of tidying up. There's a tray of bike gear with a variety of gloves, neck tubes and other bits. Probably 10 pairs of gloves, same amount of neck tubes. None bad enough to throw out but will I use them all?
Is it 'normal' to hoard these things?

The Euro K Club Lounge / Comments on 2nd man drop-off topic
« on: January 22, 2023, 10:23:12 am »
I've seen again the great explanation of the 2nd man  drop-off system in the locked events section. I'm used to this method when out for large runs with the 4 Counties group centered around Bristol / South Wales.
A couple of things
- it helps if the leader points to a drop to the 2nd man. But if in doubt mark it anyway.
- in pre-ride briefing it's useful to explain the 2nd man should stop where it's safe but visible, even if you have to dismount and walk a few steps to be visible. Also explain that the back marker WILL arrive, even if it takes a half hour because of a problem further back. Even if the ride is abandoned someone will tour round notifying the markers, so stay in position until collected. We've had rides approaching 100 bikes, marking a junction can take a while. Leaving early creates massive problems, if you need leave the ride still wait for the back marker and tell him or wave him past.
-the back marker should be clearly identified, (ours with bright orange vest).

Hopefully these comments will help anyone organising decent sized runs based on the excellent locked full explanation. I might have duplicated some, if so, apologies.

The Euro K Club Lounge / Seat improvement
« on: February 12, 2022, 12:27:31 pm »
I have a spare standard damaged seat and intend to have it recovered and modified a bit for comfort and a little less tilted forward. Looking for company recommendations, ideally within an hour or so of Swindon.
Any suggestions on materials or padding also appreciated. I'm unsure of memory foam, doesn't it go harder once you have sat and formed it?

How To - Tech & Forum support / Tyre cupping, feathering problem
« on: September 10, 2021, 07:35:33 am »
I've  noticed my front tyre is cupped and feathered, whatever the correct term is. I can feel slight unevenness around the centre tread and the side treads have leading edge and trailing edge at different heights. Not noticeable when riding, except maybe some front jitter at very high speed, and I don't feel any suspension problems. Can anyone point to the likely cause amongst ESA, suspension linkage or balancing?
It's Angel GT type A, will replace with the same soon.

Now I've organised a LSL handlebar conversion it seems my nav mount on the battery cover will have to go, as the bar clamps will probably hit it. So I'm looking for a used undrilled battery cover just in case.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / K1300S bar conversion options
« on: July 20, 2021, 10:59:04 am »
I have Helibars fitted, but still get wrist and neck ache after a day's ride. I've been trying to find a new more upright bike to replace the K, but everything out there is a compromise between comfort, occasional luggage (with top box once a year), performance, looks and wind protection. I've tried a good few possible bikes but none have made me love them. The K has everything I love except the more upright riding position, so I've almost decided to keep the K and do a bar conversion.
Sitting up tall with my fingertips on the helibars almost does it for me.

Now, which bar conversion? I'd be very interested to hear of anyone's conversions. How much more upright does it seat you? Which actual bars should one buy, does it have to be the ones recommended with the conversion kit?
Then could I do it myself? Or would any old bike mechanic do it? Or a main dealer? It says in one of the blurbs, to bleed an ABS system the dealer should do it? How hard to change throttle cables?

Ive had a search on here and read some comments on those already fitted, but would appreciate any long or short advice.

The Euro K Club Lounge / Headlamp conversions and MOT
« on: January 13, 2021, 12:03:44 am »
This is in the latest gov. MOT instructions...LEDs now in trouble.

Some motorcycles may be fitted with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) headlamps. Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with HID or LED bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.

I believe the K1300S DIN socket shuts off after a short while (how long?) I want to get a plug in usb charger to top up my intercom while stopped for a quick break.
Do any of the 'BMW compatible' chargers have canbus triggers to keep the socket alive?
Or maybe I'll get a hard wired socket and stick it somewhere, maybe find room under the seat.
Anyone done any of this?

The Euro K Club Lounge / Sun visor for TomTom rider 500
« on: July 16, 2020, 09:21:14 pm »
I've seen two types of add-on sun hood/visors for sale for the Tomtom rider 500, cheaper ones held on with two straps, and more expensive 3D printed ones that clip on. Are either of them worth adding?
My old Tomtom rider 2 finally gave up so I've replaced it. (I did like the sun hood on the old unit, and the blocky graphics.)

Other (K) Bikes or anything else! / F900XR
« on: June 04, 2020, 06:47:10 pm »
I had one of these F900XRs as a service loaner. Of course it's not a rocket ship like the K1300, but it does have a surprisingly good turn of acceleration, quite comfortable even thought the seat is a bit hard it didn't do me any hurt.
The rear mudguard isn't all that, my back was quite dirty after riding the wet roads. I expect parts will arrive to improve that.
All in all, I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice a bike this one is.
