There is always a reason...

I'll bet on a faulty valve

I agree with greenman. There is always a reason and the most likely is the valve.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

If there was an issue with a tented wheel then you would probably had noticed it.
A nail or a screw that hit it and then vanished could be another issues and if it was very small then finding the hole would be difficult.
In most cases as already describe a faulty valve is to be blamed and its faulty simply cause the man who fit the tyre n the work shop had used brutal force.

You can make up a fairly strong solution of washing up liquid & water.
Remove the valve cap & apply a little to the valve opening.
If a bubble starts to form you've found the culprit.

If that proves to be ok, spray the sollution around the circumference of the tyre covering all the tread & around where the tyre meets the rim.
Again look for any bubbles forming.

When finished wash all the liquid off with clean water.

Washing up liquid is a bit pricey and slippy, I use spit for the valve cos I'm a tight wad!

Although some might frown on it, I'd whip the wheel out and dunk it in the bath with enough water to cover the rim and valve, any leakage will soon be apparent as you rotate it slowly.

Hi Ian

If you look here

http://www.rainbowbmw.com/BMWETK/Products/0508_3603806.php

part #2 is a valve repair kit. I had to have one on my GT for exactly the same problem. Been fine ever since. Had it popped in when the tyre was off for a replacement, it needed the valve seat on the wheel cleaning up as some corrosion had gotten in and the o ring at the very bottom of the diagram was compromised. Didn't need to change the valve just the o ring and the alloy nut with loctite in it that clamps it down (as well as cleaning the fur off :) )

Happens more on the rear due to the centrifugal force forcing the muck in, where the front with its side mounted valve doesn't get the same problem

I'm disappointed in you - has nobody suggested that the reason for it going flat is really quite clear - there's not enough air in it

If there is no air in it...it won't go flat.....
