I struggle with this one.
It's a caricature* of someone spitting out their dummy (who happens to be black). It's normal for facial features to be warped in a caricature.
*From Wikipedia:
a picture, description, or imitation of a person in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic or grotesque effect. Here's another cartoon with purposefully caricature hair and lips. I guess, if drawn by a black person, it might well be categorised in the same vein:
I think the problem is, that in some eyes, the Venus Williams cartoon is more 'grotesque' than 'comic'.
Personally I didn't see it that way. I just saw a spoilt person, and no race bias.
Or have I missed the point completely?
We may have to ask some youngsters for a more nuanced opinion.
