Wrinklies Chasing The Sun 3. Monday 5th - 7th June 2017
« on: January 05, 2017, 03:20:35 pm »
Here are all the details you need

Monday 5th June 2017 meet at Premier Inn Lowestoft from 2 O'clock.
Premier Inn Lowestoft Click Here
Book one night, the meal deal is worth booking too.

Tuesday 6th June 2017 Premier Inn Hinckley
Premier Inn Hinckley Click Here
Book one night, the meal deal is a good idea here too. I think we all enjoyed the meal last year so it makes sense to stick with it.

I normally draw my accommodation line just above Travelodge but on this occasion I will capitulate because it's in the right place and it's fairly new.

Wednesday 7th June 2017 Travelodge Llanelli Central.
Travelodge Llanelli Central Click Here

Book one night, or more if you wish :D
There is no meal deal to be had at Travelodge as they don't have a restaurant. There is a Hungry Horse pub just across the road, there's a Wetherspoons about 10 minutes walk away as well as an Indian restaurant about the same distance. I'm sure we wont go hungry or thirsty.

Rae, Good plan as per usual, I like the sound of the start point and potential finish in Wales. I suppose the choice of North Wales or South is a mute point as both have a choice of great roads, for me literally will go with the flow. Thanks Rae,

Assuming I am not moving house that week count me in.

A mid-Wales finish might suit more folks.  I use Llanwyrtydd Wells often and Tom and Ron stayed there in the autumn with good reviews. Great roads and a reasonablly easy way out for the dash home, which for me might be a mere few moments  8)

Hello Rae, sounds good! I should be OK for this year.

I'd quite fancy south or mid-Wales since I've never ridden there. I'm happy to recommend roads in south Warwick/north Oxfordshire, if you want to come this way.

One suggestion -  it might be nice have a 'place of interest' to stop off each day, i.e. combine a cafe / lunch with something unique. Like Talgarth Mill. But I've been there :-) You know what I mean though...

Have a great time chasing the sun and let me know if you want any road suggestions for the Suffolk area. Unfortunately I won't be able to join you even for a drink on the first night as I'll be off with the Old Gits chasing the sun in the South of France.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

My first thoughts were to follow last years route from Lowestoft to Hinckley and the same route from Hinckley to the Lazy Trout cutting out some of the A5 and then head south from there to the Shropshire hills and the Brecon Beacons and on to the coast maybe Llanelli or Porthcawl.

Rich if you can come up with places of interest combined with coffee/ food feel free, you say I know what you mean but nope I don't, my imagination is sadly lacking  :-[

You wont have to do as much sun chasing in the South of France as we will in the South of Wales  ;D ;)

Please add me to the list Rae.
If at first you don't succeed then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello Rae, I'll spend a little time on Sunday looking (not much time right now). However, an immediate thought is if you were to veer towards Cardigan instead of Cardiff, then there's a very interesting gold mine here:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir//52.0443,-3.94824/@51.9664555,-3.8626007,9z

https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/dolaucothi-gold-mines

It has loos and a tea shop. And gold. Caves with gold. Or it did back in the 30s, when I were a lad, etc.

They do a good 1 hour tour, but we may be pushing it for time.

I'll have a scan along your routes for other places of interest - but not until Sunday.

Oh, did I mention the gold?

I see your point Rich but that will take us away from some really fantastic roads. Take a look closely at the revised route. It's a trade off between Gold Mine or really great roads. For me it's all about the riding. I do my sightseeing with Melanie.  :)
I will go with the general consensus.

That'll be a first  ;D

I also prefer riding to sight-seeing. I don't mind stopping to go 'ooh ahh, look at that' but not for long enough to take a piccie eh?

I'll go with the concensus but only if it agrees with me  8)

I'm with you Brian, for me too it's about the roads and the riding. I do my sightseeing with Melanie. I don't mind as you say seeing things in passing and saying "oh great look at that, can we get going now"  ;D
However if we can incorporate a point of interest with a coffee or lunch stop we can keep everyone happy.
