Title: Tyre advice
Post by: davidll on July 17, 2019, 07:05:19 pm
Hey

Ok - I've read a few of the posts on different types of tyres.
I'm looking for a set in the next 800 / 1k miles.

ATM the bike has Battlax Hypersport S21
Rear 190 / 55  zr17m/c
Front 120 / 70 zr17m/c

Question is:

Should I stick with this brand?
I'm looking for a good all year / good mileage tyre. (rather than a sports).
On my last bike I had a set of pilot road 5 - which i was impressed by.

Everyone seems to go on about Road angels? Whats with the 'A' everyone seems to mention?
- AAAha - (A) fitment for heavier bikes

Is this a good deal / right size?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pirelli-Angel-GT-II-Motorcycle-Tyre-Pack-120-70-ZR17-58W-190-55-ZR17-75W-M-CTL/312693304509

Thanks in advance.

The (A) spec means the side walls are a bit stiffer than the normal tyres for heavy bikes like the K12/13

The price seems OK but you might get them a bit cheaper from Alltyres365 or Tyreleader but you will have to allow a week to ten days for delivery.

I'd recomend (purely my preference, and in descending order):
1. Pirelli Angel GT
2. Michelin PR 4 or 5

I can't comment on the Angel GT II - not tried them yet, but assuming they're better than the plain Angel, then they will be fab.

Both models should last about 6k - 7k, maybe more if you're gentle rider.
Both will grip in dry & wet, with the Mich sticking slightly better than the Angel in the wet, if you're into serious leaning in the wet (not me!).

'A' rating is for heavier bikes ( = Ks),  so you should pay the extra £5 per tyre for 'A' spec - both front & rear.

And ones I wouldn't buy over the above:
- Dunlop Sportmax - just not right, but they were fitted by a prev owner and I inherited them. The swap from Angels to Dunlop was night & day (in comparison, worn Angels -> new Angels was never as extreme an improvement, so I still reckon the Dunlops were rubbish, relatively.)
- Metzeler Roadtec 01 - they're not quite as good as the Angels for me, but not actually bad. I wish I'd paid the extra £30 for Angels (I'm still running Roadtec today - waiting to get onto Angel GT II). Again, if you go for Metz, get the heavy version ('H' I think).

I think the GT IIs are cheaper here - but do double-check:

Ok - So this is not a bad deal:

1 x Pirelli Angel GT2
120/70 ZR17 58W Front, A   100.78 £
1 x Pirelli Angel GT2
190/55 ZR17 75W Rear, A   137.99 £
Free and fast shipping
Total inc VAT   238.77 £

Sorry - but are the sizes correct? Just want to double check.

Sizes are correct according to RepROM.

And that's in agreement with the owners manual. Do you not have one?
If not, I'm happy send it to you as a PDF, if you PM me.

The original link was for Demon Tweeks. Seems if you want to go to Wrexham they'll fit them and give you the front tyre for free (see the special offer on their website). No idea how much they'd want for variant A ones though.

Yes, sorry, I have an owners manual. I'll RTFM.

For anyone else near Wrexham (Steve?):

The 'front tyre free' offer is confusing. However, if we ignore that, £250.01 fitted for both is a good deal, I'd say.

I see other places have the 'front tyre fitted free' offer too. One nearer you is:
https://www.fwr.co.uk/product/pirelli-angel-gt-2

Again, it says ring them, so I reckon the deal is a Pirelli-based one, not specific to Demon Tweaks.
And if true, that makes them sometihing like £179 / £189 + fitting (maybe £25 each?). Still a bargain.

Wheelhouse Tyres near Brum also has the deal - if you're Midlands based:
https://www.wheelhousetyres.co.uk/

Me want. All I have to do is wear out my current Metzs before 30th Sept. Hmmm...

Excellent! Please let us know what the actual deal is when you ring them, i.e. rear tyre price + free front + fitting  = £xxx.xx.

Cheers...

Right - Called FWR, nice guys.

They say its such a good offer, they have totally sold out! Sold all 50 sets.
No catch / Small print. Free front tyre.

Richtea - How did you find out who was doing the deal?
I've checked the Pirelli site / list of dealers.

wheelhousetyres - have a set £234 all fitted.

Also looks like some are only selling combinations (no A's) https://www.laguna.co.uk/pages/offers/pirelli-angel-gt-2-tyre-offer.htm

Impressed! I'm pretty sure you'll win the 'Cheapest Tyres in 2019' trophy.

I'm just cross my Metzs aren't close to being knackered yet - not even 2/3rds there. Grrr.

Anyway, let us know how you find the tyres - I don't think we've had an Angel GT II report yet.

Spent my money.

GTC Motorcycle - Guildford were happy to take £210 off me. Nice guys. Had a good ride out, and an even better one back. Tyres felt fantastic - but then again, i only had a pair of worn tyres to compare against.
It was raining too (hence dirty bike pic) - tyres provided confidence.
