Where to get ball joints?
« on: September 19, 2016, 08:39:14 pm »
Hi all.
I plan to replace the upper and lower ball joint on my 1200s.

Could feel a slight wandering of the bike at low speed over the last few weeks and after jacking up the front found the top ball joint has some play.

After reading a few story's about changing them  :o I decided to take off the wheel carrier and take it to my dealer in Cardiff and let them do it.

Now original parts are about £100 each but I found a part from FRAP and with 65 euro each it will be half the cost.

Has anybody got any experience with an cheaper aftermarket part or should I bite the bulled and go for original?

Thanks for your help

This company is an OEM for BMW.  So you get the factory parts without the factory price.  Site is in German.

If they don't have an English language version then just search for the BMW part number and use Google translate. Works for me! :-)

Am afraid no. My mechanic recomented FRAP too for the same reason , so would go for it with eyes closed.

Don't forget tho' the OEM BMW ones have two years warranty on them, and as some have failed shortly after fitting new ones it's nice to have the replacements covered under warranty :D

Too true! And, as I paid for mine to be fitted when I first got the K12, when they failed and took out the front wheel carrier with them 800 miles later, the warranty on the ball-joints not only covered the new joints and labour but also the new wheel carrier, almost £600 in parts alone  :o
