If your Hotel is near the Colosseum that's probably not a traffic free zone. We stayed in a Hotel near there and plenty of traffic - be careful, they are all mad and can't park!

The history in Rome is stunning - standing in buildings 2,000 years old is amazing. The Colosseum is a little outside of all of the other main attractions which are all in walking distance of each other, but it would be worth getting the Tour Bus ticket that lets you travel around all day and let you get on and off when you want. And if you want to see the inside of the Vatican it would be worth getting on one of the guided tours otherwise you can queue for hours just to get in.

Thanks Belco.

My hotel is in the traffic free zone but I have found a parking garage that is within walking distance. So far I have written to them three times, twice in English and now once in Italian, all so far without any reply whatsoever, not even an acknowledgement. If I cannot book a parking space I will have to cancel.

I will leave it a few weeks and if still no reply I will ask my Roman hotel to have a word with them. I don’t speak any Italian and so far my Roman hotel have been very helpful when we correspond via Google Translate.

The Mrs and I are really looking forward to this trip, especially now we have seen Rich’s photos, so I am loathe to cancel.

I will keep you all posted

Whilst I agree that you should get a secure parking garage slot, your best anti-theft device for a K is the four bladed propeller on either side of the fairing.

Well it worked for Boudicca, and that kept the Romans away too. For a bit.
If the parking doesn't go according to plan, best not burn the hotel/parking down though, eh. Do you live in St Albans? ::)

I am afraid that even in Roman times the good people of Kent knew their place and, apart from one Wat Tyler, have never been revolting

If Boadicea was good enough for Thomas Thorneycroft who lived a lot closer to her time than I do then that moniker is good enough for me 8)

Shouldn't that have been Which Tyler. I seem to remember that he was the leader of the pedant's revolt.

I think that the modern fad for the 'buddikah' pronunciation makes her sound much more war-lord like and terrifying than the way softer and very ladylike Boodaseeah who you would probably ask to babysit your pet house mouse while you were away on a sacking.
