Trip planning for 2025
« on: December 14, 2024, 04:44:33 pm »
Looking ahead to next year, considering where and when to ride. Keen to try Picos, Asturias in general for the first time. From the experienced tourists, is late Feb early March too early?

I was down in Faro that time this year with BMW ORS and it were right lovely temperature. What's the climate at the top in Feb?

I imagine Portugal and Spain will be super, though I've only done the upper bit (well, the Pyrenees) in summer months.

Apparently the weather is mid teens, which is fine, it’s whether it’s still rainy around then  that will make it pleasant or not.
The ORS looks like fun. In two minds to do it because I don’t fancy doing level one after years of riding enduro, but I can see how doing level two and three would be good.

I getchya. Well, chatgpt says

Quote
In layman's terms, the rainfall in Asturias in late February to early March means:

It rains about 1 in 3 days on average, so expect a few rainy days during your trip.

When it does rain, it might be light to moderate showers rather than heavy downpours all day.

You'll likely have some dry days too, but clouds and damp conditions are common.

If you're planning a motorcycle holiday, pack waterproof riding gear and be ready for mixed weather. You can still get good riding days, but flexibility in your plans will help make the most of the trip.

March reduces rainfall by less than 10% so not much saving there. Go quite far south to reduce it significantly. But it's light rainfall generally anyway so mehh.

You can get all that in Wales. In summer.  ;)

Check when the passes in the Pyrenees open. I suspect many will still be closed in early March. Even some of the Picos may be closed.
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Thanks all and chatgpt 😀, maybe we’ll push it out to late March or go further south.
Next mission getting ferries sorted.

I did these routes in May this year and there was still snow on some of the tops, it was also very cool -1 and -2 with some ice on the side of the roads, 30 percent rain over 14 days but still a great ride out.

Nice routes Tom. Richard will be along in a moment to say how much he loves to see a proper route with stops and times and piccie places...

Are the routes public on MRA?

They are now Brian, normally set to friends but when I get back I will change them to Public, I forgot this year and they are under Rowdy Yates.

Thanks for routes and inspiration. Will have a look on MRA, and add any I do eventually take.

Ooh thanks Tom! I think I glanced at these ages ago on MRA and then forgot to nick 'em :D. I'm sure I'll end up on those rides in the next few years!

And for the MRA Nav users, I'll shortly have nicked and converted these to HERE :D.
