Ah good work! I'll read up on that one more now.
The inner one doesn't appear on their website, and I can't even find images of it on the web, so I guess they pushed it out for EICMA and Motorcycle Live.
Basically it's almost as skinny as a wally jacket, with a CD box-sized electronics pack that pops in a jacket pocket.

Here's the first image of it on the net! Yeah, right.

There are 5 poppers to position/lock it in the jacket.
It comes in different sizes - Small, Medium, Large IIRC. Its also longer than a passive back protector.

The one so-so bit is that the air canister is centrally mounted at the back. I would have thought away from the spine would be smarter, but hey, no airbag is even worse than that.

Woo! Ah yes the placement of electronics and/or canister is another thing that is... a thing. For sure.

How is it mounted on the back though? I don't have the nits to make it out. Is it just 'strapped' on there? I've seen some where it appears as part of the passive back protector itself. That sounds - to a laybadger - a sensible one. Though i'm sure Helite made their decision for a reason.

Let the reason be love.

Designed by a 7 year-old. Obviously on contract as the 4 year-olds who wouldn't make that silly mistake were all too busy.

I imagine that the gas canister is 'protected' when the bag goes off so it might not hurt you but sitting outside a coffee stop might be a tad irritating...unless you set the bag off.

As well as Pie Expansiontm elastication they also offer the Body Sculpting Encasertm, developed from heat shrink technology.
Takes 20 years off your body!

What was the price of the inner Helite Richard? At the price of your suit including the Helite, it can't have been much. The outer ones cost an arm and a leg (but might save you the use of them in a tumble).

I didn't actually ask, but suits are around the £800-900 mark (depending on type, design, etc, in my case minimal), so that would make it somewhere around £500-600.

I'm guessing it's slightly cheaper than the external variety (£650, discounted to £600), but not by much since most cost is in the electronics / development.

The get out will be that helmets are mandatory and airbags are not.

That Bennetts video is excellent  :thumbsupgood:

I was an early airbag adopter. It’s not often I’m ahead of a trend :D

So when I get a suit made it needs double expansion panels :D. One for the airbag and one for me!

Have you decided who will make the suit (Hideout, BKS or someone else)?

I'll let you know how I get on.

I’m glad you’ve summoned your inner Helite :)

Please keep us posted on how you get on. Incidentally, Kate at Hideout mentioned this new Helite was coming, but your photo is the first I’ve seen of it—what a scoop!

I've received a recall notice for my yet to be worn TechAir 7x.... Alpinestars has identified an issue with the bushing connectivity of the gas canisters in the Tech-Air® 7X and Off-Road Systems, which may cause damage to the housing or back protector of the product during deployment and requires a free upgrade.

Just as well it's still in it's box as I need to send it back for the upgrade.
