Organ Donor Register.
« on: March 19, 2015, 04:29:01 pm »
There is a new petition on change.org about making the organ donor register an 'opt out' system.

https://www.change.org/p/jeremy-hunt-secretary-of-state-for-health-make-the-uk-organ-donation-register-opt-out?utm_source=action_alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=264226&alert_id=vSdBeoxJnA_uBSw4JC7Br%2BRTvJ2Ex%2FKlRFW65DNnTzdGXuK2t5fkWs%3D

As one of society's slightly more vulnerable people, I value the emergency treatment I may one day need from the NHS but I doubt I will ever need an organ transplant at my age, brain aside  8)

However, I have a few useful bits left in me and have been on the donor register since I first heard of it, as I am sure lots of you are.

The petition is being sponsored by a lady whose young child needs a lung transplant, organs which very rarely become available.

Her petition to have all UK residents automatically registered on the Organ Donor Register would make more organs available for those who need them, would probably save admin costs as more people currently have to register than would want to un-register, would make the work of surgeons and theatre staff easier at a time of great sadness for donor's families and would certainly save lives, even if not ours, as motorcyclists!

If you feel the need, you can sign the petition here

Thanks, Brian

All family donors here mate, that remind me to tell Paul that he might need to inform NHS there . The donors card is in Greek so that needs to be updated .
Thing we all need to be donors. Come one who things on the life after and even if this happens I prefer to return as a bike preferably not a Bimer :-*

Signed, Brian, thank you. I've been on the register for years and have carried a card since I was at school. Fortunately, for me, I've never needed to donate or receive but opt-out has always made sense to me.

Say thanks to Paul from us all Costas.

Brian (who hopes he doesn't need it, but a Greek heart might be a nice choice  8) )
