K1200GT - 2007 to 2011
« on: February 15, 2016, 04:47:48 pm »
I really liked this bike. Power and handling in excess of my needs. Bought it with about 5,000 miles done, sold it with approaching 60,000 miles. Let me down a few times but BMW always sorted me out, even if I had to push things along sometimes. Self accelerating cruise control which would not turn off and a dodgy camshaft at 48,000 miles spring to mind. That one resulted in a new top end... another story!
Many continental visits, Round Britain Rallies, etc.

EuroKClub trip to Belgium and Luxembourg. 2008 - It's the one nearest the road.

Pitted cam lobe...

Surely pits like that would have been there when grinding.
Don't say much for BMW's inspection department or don't such departments exist now?
Its not always the destination that counts its the ride, having a destination just stops you going round in circles.

I remember discussions about wether new followers would be included in the rebuild.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Maybe not Ron! Poor hardening allows the ground surface to look great but 5-10,000 miles later, bingo, the pits appear!

Brian (who thinks it really is the pits  :o )

Cam lobe wear like that can also arise from lubrication system problems or poor quality lubricant.
