not a fan of humor then?  no problem

Yeah, we all laughed at that one. But quite seriously, if you won't tell us where your garage or the bike are located, then someone just down the road who was thinking of popping over with a wad of beer tokens will just think 'Sod 'im!'

That'll be a real hoot!

And how exactly did they do that?

You get a dab of grease on your finger, smear it on the ball joint and viola, not only a string instrument but also a big bill  ::)

And, just to be contrary, I agree with Costas!

But, just sticking an Optimate on and forgetting about it is not the way to do it!

The Optimate has a series of tests and charging programs that it goes through, it is not merely a battery charger!

If you never look at the sequence of lights then you won't know what it is telling you about your battery and you can end up, as Tom says, up the schtuck without a pedalo!

However, if you pay attention to the lights sequence, like what it tells you to do in the user manual (remember that) then rather than masking problems, it will forewarn you of impending doom!

Whether you then take any action is up to you, the Optimate won't fit a new battery for you  ::)

My four year old K13 battery won't even turn the bike over after two weeks left standing and that is without the alarm turned on! However, I would have no qualms about heading off sur le continent for a couple of weeks because it will always start the next day or even after a couple of days after it has been ridden.

The Optimate is telling me something isn't quite right with it and I need to study the lights and the manual (which is right next to the Optimate  ;D ) to find out what. As with all things in life, it will only get worse and I think a new battery is on the way!

By comparison, even though there is no comparison, my K12 which has a battery at least five years old and probably much older, will happily start after week or more with no charger connected. It rarely gets left any longer than that.

Brian (who says if you use an Optimate like a charger you will run into problems, use it like the intelligent conditioner it is and it will repay you handsomely for your troubles  8) )

Same size externally, dunno if the pump etc takes up more internal volume.

I've put 19.8 in the 12 on more than one occasion and yes, I had run out. On multiple occasions  ::)

See, that's what happens when you go off on your own like that! Don't do it again  >:(

Welcome back! Not only do none of your details match up but nor do any of ours; you can read the full sorry story of where we all went and why in the announcements section! Open a bottle of something and settle down for a good read.

And, as if all that excitement isn't enough, it would be great if you could re-introduce yourself with a few more details so those of us with a memory can remember who you are, or were, as it were  8)

You are cautious and you ride a motorcycle?

It really is only three self-tapping screws!

The holes are pre-drilled in both the guard and the plastic mudguard-undertray

Fitting is only a fiddle if you have the BMW Sport Case rack fitted. Which you don't!

Tips for finding things like trip meters..

1 Open a bottle

2 Open the user manual

3 Read manual before drinking contents of bottle! Simples!

If you don't have a suitable bottle to hand....

1 ignition on

2 Push repeatedly the round black button to left of display to bring up the trip you want

3 With trip I or II displayed, press and hold said button till display zeros! Simples!

Brian (who says it was far Simples!'er on his K12  8) )

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Re: Coolant Level
« on: September 12, 2016, 03:06:58 pm »
You are doing really well if you can even see a level from the outside  ;D

Has the bike got a full BMW service history?

With the bike upright, dip the bottle using a stick thingy. Compare level with marks on side.

I went over the clear plastic raised ribs with a black marker pen to make it more obvious and find it easier to see the level by shining a light into the tank with the lid off, especially after dark. Check the level with the engine cold

Putting more coolant in won't upset anything, it will only blow any excess out of the overflow pipe if there is too much in there.

BMW stopped giving details on coolant level checking etc after the model updates in 2007, I guess the level sensor was included then.

The manual for my 2004 K1200S gives the procedure but that manual is no longer available for download on the web afaik; I can't find it. The 2007 manual is but that doesn't give the procedure!

Hope this helps, Brian
