K1200 / K1300 Forum / Packing it all in
« on: December 22, 2023, 12:07:05 pm »
Due to age and a lack of enthusiasm I’m packing in motorcycling.
I have a 2009 K13s with 77,000 miles on the clock and is of course showing its age.
Apart from an MOT notification appertaining to possible ball joint renewal and patched exhaust headers the bike is reasonable and very rideable.
The bike has been serviced by Tom Luther who does more than needed when working on it. Oil and filter changes have ben regular and mostly on time, mostly early.
I have no idea of its value,
Is it worth anything to anyone on here, if so make me an offer

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Headlamp bulb replacement
« on: March 20, 2023, 02:29:59 pm »
Help, Bike due for MOT so to play safe I removed my LED's to replace with normal bulbs.
Did the r/h and all OK replaced  the l/h and stupidly put in a bulb with a broken filament so changed it but still not working.
Checked there was continuity across the socket terminals and it appeared OK. I say appeared because I'm no good with sparky stuff.
Where does the h/l bulb cable vanish to in the h/l shell to check all is connected well?
Or could something else I know nothing about have happened.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

K1200 / K1300 Forum / new Rear Tyre needed.
« on: February 14, 2023, 11:38:47 am »
I got a puncture on Sunday and managed to repair it to get home.
On close inspection there is a cut and my tyre man says it unrepairable to ride safely on it so I'm looking for a new tyre.
I have Road 5's at the moment.
Any suggestions for a cheaper replacement that will match up with Road 5GT front.
I did think about a PR4 but surely any available would have been on the shelf for some time now as I can't see Michelin are still producing them.
Any suggestions are welcome. polite that is.
Thanks

Since leaving the EU the advantage of buying from my usual source has gone, so looked around and found this sight https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/6017009436?iid=393337873508. It a BMW dealer in Peterborough.
Thought it might be of interest.
Have ordered six litres.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Tyres - yet again
« on: November 10, 2021, 11:18:02 am »
I've been running PR4's for some time and graduated to Road 5 and have been very happy and confident of them but cost is making me look around.

Yesterday I got a puncture and had to be rescued home, thanks CN insurance. The leak is a small cut that I wasn't confident would be repaired by a Stop and Go plug and might spoil any chance of a professional repair and just in case it wasn't viable to repair I started looking around at the price of tyres and find from Demon Tweaks that a replacement Road 5 is £166 and an Avon Storm £113.36, plus fitting of course.

Question is, if I have to replace is the Avon anywhere near as good as the Road5?
and if so would you mix it with a front Road 5?

I have a PR4 on the front of my VFR FL with a Bridgestone rear and it works very well in fact brilliantly well.

Nice to have your thoughts.

The Euro K Club Lounge / Greater London ULEZ
« on: October 18, 2021, 12:51:25 pm »
ISTR looking up my car and bike for the original ULEZ and finding my 2009 K13scomplient but my 2006 Nissan Note SVE not.
Just checked for the new ULEZ zone and find the car is compliant and the bike isn't which for me is a bummer as I was intending to go the Greenwich to do some Genealogy research.

Are required to have a Euro 4, 5 or 6 Standard engine. To achieve this standard, an engine has to produce less than 0.50g/km per km of CO2.
Are usually registered after January 2006.
Why your vehicle is not compliant:

The Euro K Club Lounge / Lorry cameras
« on: March 16, 2021, 10:39:17 am »
I copied this from a FB group and thought it would be of interest

If you ride, read on
HGV's without mirrors
Received this via Triumph Owners Club.
"If you see a truck with no mirrors then it probably is equipped with a new camera system which appears to be slightly flawed.
Take note and take care!
I had the pleasure (not) of driving a new Merc truck fitted with mirror cameras, from a bikers point of view, they're bloody awful.
Although you no longer have the big blindspot caused by the half-acre of plastic sticking out, which makes it hard to see approaching bikes on a roundabout, you now have quite a large area beside the cab that isn't covered by the wide-angle section of the mirror, and you could easily lose sight of a bike if you're not careful.
It is also impossible to get a better view by moving your head, as it's like looking at the TV, no matter where you stand, the picture isn't going to change.
Probably the worst bit though is the lack of eye contact, especially in slow moving traffic. With normal mirrors, I can see you, and you can see me, and that little bit of eye contact makes a massive difference. With the camera, you have no way of telling whether I've seen you or not, so it's best to assume that I haven't.
So there you go, if a truck has cameras instead of mirrors, give it a bit more room, don't get anywhere near the corners of the cab, and never assume the driver knows that you're filtering up to the front of the queue”.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Fairing roundel
« on: March 11, 2021, 03:39:47 pm »
I have been replacing a panel and of course need to switch the roundel.

I removed it OK but the double sided sticky stuff is now a bit ragged but I think it can be glued so looking for suggestions on what glue to use.

Link takes you to the K1300s FaceBook  page. hope it works.

Is the original double sided sticky available from BMW? So much neater than if I were to try and make my own if needed..

The Euro K Club Lounge / Old chestnut of insurance
« on: January 26, 2021, 04:50:14 pm »
Just received my renewals and now looking around.
I have been covered by Carole Nash on their six wheel policy for my 2006 Nissan Note, 2009 K13s and  1991 VFR750.
The nice thing about CN is breakdown for UK and Europe is included plus liability cover.
Looking around at all these comparison sites is a nightmare and then having to cost out breakdown cover as well is doing my head in.

I have found £224 for the Nissan
£107 for the Honda
£129 for the K13s
And strangely £226 for both bikes with CN

CN  six wheel renewal was £639.27, on telephoning them they were willing to reduce it to £612

How do you fellows go about it?

Searching through RepRom yesterday and came across a heading
51-16 Mirrors, Covers, Ashtrays and Stowage Compartments.
I'd like to know where the ashtray is and has anyone got one. ;D

Just had a thought.

Would steam cleaning with a wallpaper steamer soften the muck enough to wash it out.
