Politics...

OK, OK, OK! I know we don't have any rules but we do have an understanding that we don't do politics, religion or sex in here (except in the dark corners when no-one is looking...)

However, I just opened a Xmas card from a British friend who married a US Airman 30 odd years ago and has spent the last 25 living in various US states as he (now a civilian but still working for the military) moved from post to post.

They have now settled in Oklahoma and are both retired'ish.

Her Xmas card made reference to 'the Orange clown' and also to the fact that OK is a VERY red state.

This confused me (not the bit about the clown) and being a bear of very little brain I have never understood the US political system (nor the UK one come to that) nor the similarities and differences between them and then I found this wonderful website...

http://www.rogerdarlington.me.uk/USvsUK.html

...which made more sense than any other I have ever come across. Well written, aimed just right and even I understand it

So, if you have 'murrican friends and struggle to understand their system, this compare and contrast site makes for fascinating reading on a cold and miserable Wednesday.

If this evening's christmas party is as rubbish as I expect, I will get reading!

Will try and avoid the dark corners though.

Thanks for that Brian. ::)
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Ha! Brian. I got to the end of the paragraph re The Constitution and then my mind started to wander, but I promise I'll find time to give it another go when I've visited all my dark corners, which could take some time.  :)

In full it would have read '...a site that does UK politics to Belgian politics'.

'UK politics to Belgium politics' may be acceptable grammar in Belgium or indeed in Belgian, but never in UK'ish (where UK is whatever is left after the appendages have taken their leave, so probably Old Norsk.

Either way it isn't acceptable in British English  :)
