Crashed FJR a result.
« on: March 02, 2016, 05:27:12 pm »
As you know the red FJR went to the great bike park in the sky, or did it. No it didn't it was sold at auction and a Polish bloke from Feltham bought it. How does he know that, I hear you ask. I know this because he wrote to me asking if I had the handbook, red key etc. Well to cut a long story short I sold him the panniers, original rear rack and levers, tool kit and other bits and bobs. So the black FJR cost me a few hundred quid less than I thought. A result!

Nice one!

As one who just bought a newish bike which didn't have a handbook (which in the case of the K is also the service book), one is left wondering why folks dispose of a bike without the handbook, assuming it is also the service book!

Brian (who got a shiny new book with all the stamps needed to support the invoices he did get with the bike  :o )

A nice outcome for you . Now the Polish bloc only needs to take bike in the streets again.
There is no law as to destroy and never allow bikes or cars to the streets again after the inisurance write them off?

Generally they are "Uneconomical Repair", doesnt take much either, look at my GS, there was no real frame damage but the parts alone came to £3K,. There are 4 classes of write off, A, B , C, D.       I think A and B cant go back on the road, but C and D can, cant be arsed to google it
Isnt it Ironic, no its a BMW what dya expect.

This explains it:

There's no doubt that there are some Cat C and D cars and bikes offered at bargain prices and worth buying if you're never going to worry about resale value.

The 6 speed FJR has a mini review in MCN, gets a good write up. It is however a fair old bit of wedge, circa £15000 fully kitted up I suspect. I still think if I want a Sports Tourer in 2 or 3 years time I will consider this version of the FJR but that will be when I have put a few miles on my K13 GT and the Yam has dropped a load in price on the secondhand market.

Ok got it, there is a deference since weve got only two categories here, 1 beyond economical repair and 2 write off. The first can be bought from the insurance companies auction then after being  repaired pass through state control MOT (not the privateers that do the biannual inspaction)  before return to the streets,  the latest cat 2 are only to be dismandled and then sold bit by bit.
