Ilmberger rear hugger - fitting instructions?

Possibly my last bike-swap-related question (phew they all mutter):
- are there any tricks to removing/fitting an Imberger rear hugger?

I guess it's:
- caliper off
- exhaust off
- wheel off

And then it's take the hugger off old bike, and do the reverse onto the new bike.

Locktite needed, torque values, etc?

Nope mate, you can get it on with a little bit of jiggling of the back wheel, its only three bolts if remember rightly.
Don't get me wrong taking the wheel off (and only the wheel) will make access to the bolts easier but for the time it takes your not really saving anything.
Also when I fitted it I didn't use the washers.
Any questions give me a shout.
Oh and its 30nm for the M8 bolts and doesn't say anything about thread lock.

Check the bolt lengths - my hugger came with 3 new bolts that were 6mm or so longer than the originals - if you screw those back in without the hugger you could well do some damage.

And the stock bolts are not long enough to use with the washers and the hugger.

So, keep the current length of bolt with/without washers as fitted to the old bike and move that set up to the new bike. Whatever length and washer set up comes off the new put on the old.

Thanks all - I'll leave the wheel in situ, and swap the bolts over.

Had a double check the standard bolts are M8x30. The actual mount point of the hugger it made of steel which is why I didn't bother with washers.

I had to take off the little rubber buffer that rests on the suspension arm. The nut inside rubbed the tyre. It does rattle a bit, I intend to grind the bolt down just for location and araldite the buffer on. When I can be arsed.

Is it an old hugger Andy? I bought mine new in 2016 (off the original importer) and it has a 'pull-through' arrow-head type rubber bung with no nut or bolt.

It might be worth contacting the importer and seeing if they can supply a new type for you.

Either way, they should have a rubber 'bung' and not a bloody nut and bolt to wear a groove in yer tyre.

New bike, new hugger fitting fun!

I saw how little muck Brian had on his K1300S compared to mine after a semi-ride through wet Wales, and decided to find & fit one again. eBay was most obliging - luckily.

Does anyone have an intact rubber bung that they could measure and tell me how much it sticks out from the carbon fibre?
My new one looks somewhat worn:





It's about the same depth, or slightly less than the carbon fibre and almost worn through.

And thoughts on a source for them? I will ask Ilmberger, but realistically I expect no reply.

I initially contacted Ilmberger who asked was I based in Europe (yes, but not EU  ), i.e. they don't want to p*ss around with Brexit import hassles for individual parts. But they were very quick to reply - good on them. I'll update when I find the fantastic import costs, so you can make a decision to craft your own or not.

Nice to see the old Brexit Bonus kicking in again.

And nice to see that Akra are still supporting us for piddly parts.

The K12 version didn't have an anti-chatter 'button', merely a strip of rubber over the edge and I can't say I've ever studied my K13 version.
