Update, popped past Andy at Behind Bars, for me it confirmed he wasn’t keen. His suggestion was  along the lines of whether or not it was necessary as he hadn’t had to adjust valves on a K for a long time, and they usually don’t need adjusting. Also mentioned a 6 hour job, which makes me want to confirm the BMW price I was quoted. Which I will do when I get back to the UK.

Would still prefer to sell it as checked.

For Sale / Wanted / Super low mileage K1200

Evening all, was browsing for a new car (new to me…) and came across this ad for a super low mileage K1200. Little flag waving on the “long time unused” but might be interesting for someone. https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1692326

Cheers, will take a look. Got out early today to go to Elan Valley - lucked out with very little traffic, superb ride. Will have to make work of the valve check next week now, but good weather is so rare these days, it had to be done.

Thanks all, I have used Andy for a fair bit of work and also found him trustworthy, the K was with him when I was trying to sort the noise issue, I will swing past and ask him. As it happens I was at Sytner (old Rybrook) in Warwick today for my GS service. They quoted £210.00 for just the valve check, any other work would be on top. Will update here once I pop past Andy.

As it happens I have been riding it without the air temp sensor, new one is on the work bench.

The time has come to sell one of the K’s, I love the idea of keeping both but realistically unless I consider it as a long term risk reduction for the other K, it should go.
Before that though, I’d like to have the valves checked for the next owner. Can anyone recommend a workshop who will do the work at a reasonable rate, in the Midlands?

Item now sold on the GS forum.

I don’t mind the basics like servicing the dirt bikes but boy oh boy the more gristly bits are soul sucking for me.

So, what did you use it for and did it work?
It was indeed used on super tight bolts, worked but also confirmed my lack of joy and desire to repeat the experience. Will put the proceeds of the sale to the fund designated for repairs and other jobs to be done by others!

I used this once and it’s been taking up space ever since, needs to go to someone who would use it.
They are selling on eBay for £170 plus postage.

I’d like £110 posted to the UK

Hello John,

I did say I'd take them, but I've come over all sensible, and I know I won't get around to doing anything useful with them, so my apologies.  :(
But hopefully someone will take them off you and do something useful with them.

« on: March 31, 2024, 10:17:39 am »
Hello - some may recall the thread last year from me on my noisy bike, I replaced the headers and now have the old set taking up space. Bike is running well, still think it’s “better” than its low mileage sibling that lives beside it in the garage.
Anyhoo, headers need to be gone, was some interest and discussion on the original thread about welding them, or not. May be useful as a a template in case anyone was minded to have some new headers fabricated.
If anyone is interested let me know and we can sort postage or collection. Will hold them for another week before they go to recycling.

Welcome Kev, if you want to compare a higher mileage and a lower mileage version side by side, give me a ping. I am in Warwickshire so not to far from East Mids I would think.

Looking good Ritchie, I agree about the front stand, just moved my bikes around and saw the similar stand I have been using left some impressions on the tyre. I came on to the forum today to look for info on stands.

I see you are from the north west, just this morning was reminiscing about a great ride up there in June, stunning road into Bowness on Windermere from the North. Happy day that was for sure.

Good luck with the cleaning.

Well it has to be one of the little red ringed spots. Happy to pass it to the museum for posterity!

Been off the bike a while now, and I can’t remember where the crack is, must be small. Couple of likely spots.
