After just over 1,000 miles on my K1300 GT, the average is 51mpg using super unleaded throughout.

This compares with 53mpg for a Kawasaki Versys 1000 (Mk 11) and 49 mpg for a Kawasaki GTR 1400, these over some 12,000 miles each. The Kawasaki's were run on ordinary unleaded, not super.

I only ride for pleasure, so usually there is little town work involved.

After major engine rebuilt,  actually new engine block with a rrebuilt head, we left all exhaust and intake valves completely open , bike now is faster but consumption is now significantly elevated. Before 5,3 to 5,9 was the readings before, now 6,4 to 7,3 is the new reading. I guess that makes it less than 51mpg.

I guess you don't really mean 'we left all exhaust and intake valves completely open' Costas, or the engine wouldn't work. What exactly did you do to make things worse?
