Who's Who? / Re: Hi All!
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:18:35 am »
Welcome Lance glad you found us.

Regarding our bovine friends there was an interesting dialogue a few years back on the BMW Club site (the admins of which should really check this site out to see how interaction works) The nub of the story was .......cow in road, plod called, PCPlod going at fair lick round bend, cow still in middle of road, Mr Plod rams bovine up backside, cow now deceased! The dialogue that later evolved was to do with the plod getting slight tap on wrist and told not to do it again. We said what if it was 'us' would we be let off so lightly? Oh deary me the trauma and tribulation that ensued over the next few weeks was quite farcical but resulted in some of us being told off and one of us in particular being banned from that site forever!

Anyhoo good luck with the I.A.M. thingy when you've got your ticket go and do the RoSPA course it is far superior. If you want any pointers give me a call.

Bob
Bloomin 'eck,I've never heard of the RoSPA course!.
IBefore I started the IAM,I'd never had any riding training*,I figured that as I've survived the first 44 years I must be doing something right...all a bit of an eye opener though tbh
(*apart from 2 days enduro school where I launched my bike UP into the trees so dramatically traffic stopped on the adjacent A11...my head hurt for a week...)
According to my regular Observer I'm not far from my test,I've had five Observed rides but I've got my winter-riding mojo back since I started and have been putting in the practice miles almost  every week.
Not spent this much time on a bike since I gave up London despatching...

The punch line is the enduro school I rode my first bike on the road in 69 didn't ride a big bike for 5 years out of respect of learning my trade so to speak but quickly realised you could ride a bike on the road for a 100 years you'll learn to survive but you'll never learn to ride a bike and all but gave up riding a road bike for 8/9 years apart from summers hols to southern Europe.

Having ridden stuff from the Welsh 2 day to the Western beach race and heaven knows what else along the way it's where I learned to actually ride a bike when the front wheel is going one way and the back the other and just as importantly had my first encounter with after market suspension and generally how a bike works I had 3 years in the bike trade and to this day never ceases to amaze me the number of folk who don't know a shock spring from a bed spring  :) or their compression from their rebound which is a shame.

Apart from being bone idle the other reason I haven't fitted my kit either evoluzioni or BM have got it wrong,BM are into the realms of Ram Air and Evoluzioni are saying leave it off so they both can't be right.

Re the Evo filter yea they look alright but no better or no worse IMO than anything else I've used for the last few years I've used a  DNA  :) which I have had very good results on my XT.

Could do with an 'Other bikes' section I know Dusty has an XT like me or be it used so Timbox can tell us his story of his 800 and gearbox.

The air box is exactly the same it's just solid on the one side, the perfect example of the number crunchers getting their hands on the bike times the cost of those few parts by thousands and it soon tots up.

Yup GT and R only get one the S gets two there was a kit made by a company in California Evoluzioni(gone bust) and I think (there's a Polish company doing one as well) that made a twin filter kit which I have and and never got around to fitting the irony in the instructions they say fit the filters but don't bother with an air induct!!!

For anyone thinking along those lines you cut an exact hole(with either a Dremmel or hot knife) on the left side and clip the extra filter in and Bobs your uncle.

Certainly didn't know about the phone but I'm little old fashioned and always use a camera guess I view it like cctv nothing to worry about unless you want to hide something and I'd left a couple on P bucket of photos which would had folk asking questions and deleted them I lead a complicated life when it comes to motorcycling and bikes :)

Something worth pointing out that anyone posting photos with the likes of photo bucket folk can click on that photo and access your album so either keep it empty or only leave stuff that you don't mind folk looking at.

Hence when ever I see postings about how too I'm thinking jeez if I can do it it must easy.

But when some one says use a hosting website for your photos I think oh yea I know what that is ;)

It's the cloud bit that threw me!!

Kit Reviews / Re: Helmet review - AGV Pista v Arai RX-7
« on: February 15, 2015, 02:27:14 pm »
Must confess to being an Arai man over the years gone from an RX7 to Corsair to the RX7 GP the early two are all but identical the GP is a world away from both.

The fit on the GP is just different and the visor is also different and not interchageable with the other two either I couldn't ride 50 yards down the road without ear plugs with any helmet and certainly not with the GP noisy it is but with decent plugs it's fine.

For travelling abroad and in the heat it's truly fantastic way better than the previous two and tolerable in the hottest of weather, but twist to the story if you own one always look on eBay for a double glazed visor cheap they ain't but they are just a billion light years better than anything else.

Expensive the GP most certainly is but with advent of the £1000 Rukka jacket not as bad as they first appear :)

I learned my lesson when I bought my 1100s 15 years ago took the back wheel off and when I put the wheel back on tightend it up with what I thought was enough force and while out doing a test run the wheel came loose ::) when  I checked the torque setting it's 105nm which too this day I wince when doing it.

Fast forward to the K and it's only 65 which isn't a lot so I'm not suprised about the cracks appearing if the hasn't been torqued correctly.

Sounds like the relationship you have with your bikes is the same as the one I have with my dishwasher or washing machine but the involvement I have with my bikes runs a little deeper.

To steal a quote off the I site you plan works great so long as you treat your bike as an appliance  :D

Plus of course all the signs are saying the K is finished do we all just bail out ? When the factory  warranty is up

2474
If your going to run a bike with the BM extended warranty then it'll be an official dealer because it's their warranty!! there's no paper work and my experience they just do it I've had loads of things done and been informed afterwards with the exception of the 3 clutch's I've had put in.

Independent in the UK? I don't believe there is one yea sure you can have your oil and the usual stuff done but when you get into the serious and things going wrong it'll be a franchised dealer or more like what do you call a man with a machine gun although again you can argue about going the GS-911 route and hope you can dig yourself out of a hole.

As the prices of the bikes drop there's an argument for taking a chance on your own,I've never had an extended warranty on anything and certainly not a bike but I'm certainly not that stage of running my K without one although I have thought about it and to say I object to having to buy one is an understatement.

One of those useless pieces of info the extended warranty is only transferable if you pay up front for 12 months the monthly version isn't it's in the small print.

Well my entry won't be mundane as both Throttlemiester and I got banned by the previous regime!! :),on Timbox's recommendation that Brian was a nutcase!! but a nice nutcase  ;) I was one of the 4 Musketeers that met up at Marlborough last year, note to one self ask it's not a Friday next time filtered in the traffic for most of the way home, but hey coffee and cake in a church  :)

Among other bikes I own a k1200R Sport Wilbers/BST's/Akra/Rexxer map/various carbon/ and seats!!! have gone from stock to BM comfort to a Tony Archer and now a Kehedo,it's my toy some how it's been to Assen and Le-Mans x3 and still never been wet but my others most certainly have.

Work!! weeell yea sort of some times!!having had a proper job till 8 years ago in print which came to 37 years and I could tell the story in under 5 minutes the last 8 years would need a book and a thick one at that as white van moving press bikes for the mags and MCN to having to going on test rides when journo's were away on world launch's oh and drove Ducati's PR truck  ::) and after 3 years found easier ways to earn a crust but I do have some great stories, through no fault of mine own I've ended up with a close connection to the racing side of things which is good fun for face to face chat but most certainly not on the net,and if anyone needs info for GP's/NW200 etc then just ask

Well done for making the effort Brian.
