That's the difference these days ...mechanics vs technicians as it were.

Brian mentioned Dieseling earlier in the thread, but I would have thought in these days of fuel injectors that was prety much a thing of the past.

In the good old days of carburetors, they were qite happy giving out fuel as long as there was air passing through them.

But with injectors, fuel ceases as soon as the ignition is turned off.

Maybee the ignition switch is falling apart inside & shorting contacts, which would also explain the flat batter.
Or perhaps water has got into the wiring somewhere shorting something out.

The starter relay is also at he back of the engine which probably got disturbed in the recent work, something might be shorting there as it has a permanent 12v supply.

No doubt we'll find out once BMW get their grubby mits on it.

For sure I've never heard of dieseling on an FI motor but the second link I gave does show indicators of Dieseling on FI engines so it is not unheard of in the automotive world.

Dieselling just as good a term ...be one of those are old ones like....and now my mind has gone blank lol. When a new name can't be thought of but it's similar to an old problem . Sorry ..rambling.. done in after 80min of egg chasing today.
Cheers once again tho lads.
Needless to say I got it to BMW today so come Monday or so when they can get stuck in ...her as hoping I can score a good courtesy bike  :)

Good luck Coully. And look on the bright side: Once you've got an answer to this, you'll increase the sum of EuroKClub knowledge for future generations! :)

Now, prior to the spring could we start gathering intel on KTMs please.

Brian: I'd forgotten (if you told me before) or maybe I didn't know that Reading Cooper Troopers used to do bikes too. That sounds mad though, posting them north to get done! I wonder who paid for that! I've only been to Coopers once, which was when Accenture promised us all company cars... which never happened! It would have been a crappy eD 316d anyway, so it's probably a good thing, I have enough mental problems.

A friend had a BMW Scarver which went into Coopers for a service. In removing the rear wheel (I think to fit a new drive belt) they managed to break their one and only rear hub nut socket...which was made of plastic  :o

He had to wait a whole day for them to get a real socket to do the job. I mean, Halfords are just down the road fer evans sake...

In to John Clark today, well, this morning, can't get a bike as they only have 2 , 1 is off the road and the other is booked out. I might have been offered a car...I'm not sure.
I'll get a bike wed/Thurs. They don't think they'll get to my bike till wed or so anyway.
I'm less than enthused about their customer service tbh..
2 loan bikes , compared to ...and I'll hold my hands up to bias up to 5 demonstrators at honda that, if they weren't booked , you could get. I got a brand new R1 for a day last year...(A nice toy but you couldn't live with one ...lol) ...against my 18yr old £1600 vfr800. That's not too shabby.

Call from BMW , bike stripped and fault tracked to starter relay. Part will arrive tomorrow and they'll recheck once the relay is fitted .

Hmmm?

First time I've heard of a stater relay causing a bike to not STOP rather than not START  8)

Microsoft START button anyone... :o

Oh yeah! Not knocking the service at this point and if it really is just a start relay you should be getting off lightly in the wallet department to boot  8)
