I lost my footing and leant the bike on its side at an alpine pass a couple of years ago when stopping on my K1300S 30th Anniversary. The price for the panel/painting/decals from my local dealer who I rate was from memory £1000+ which was quite a lot.  Asked them who did their touch up painting when needed and got contact details of a local custom bike painter in Berkshire, dropped in to see them and got the panel re-painted for ~£250 which relatively was a bargain and they did a great job...  Peter

I'm running "normal" bulbs and had the Lamp F warning while touring when the dip beam bulb died.  Simple short term solution till I got home was to swap it with one of the high beam bulbs - at least still legal and not attracting more attention than necessary!  Peter

Easy for short people, to raise the pegs. But I guess for Richard, it feels already now as if he's riding with his knees touching his elbows...

Bit "heightist" :-) I'm 6ft 2", however it sounds like it is case of choosing which poison you prefer...  Peter

I have used the method you describe on a number of bikes in the past for the same reason, however if you have the Motorsport footrests easiest solution is to lift the pegs up.  I raised mine just "one stop" and it made the relative physical position of the brake pedal so much better for me and did not decrease riding comfort.  Peter

Went the optimate route now too:-) works a treat via the Canbus socket.  It was a badged version in Nippy Normans sale at £59...  Peter

I see the consensus is to direct connect:-) however has anyone brought one of those expensive :-) BMW chargers and used it via the Canbus socket with success?  Peter

My first K1300S did not have an alarm which I wanted to paid for the upgrade, local dealer did the work (put in the new box and reset a few software bits) and all was good.  Even got the old TPMS block as a present!  Peter

From memory on my bike a good quality open ended spanner on the two sides of the nut was enough to brake the weld, as others have said it is loud with it out and I have it like that about 2 weeks of the year:-) Peter

Time to take it back and get it sorted before it kills you.

Agreed, when BMW did the extra loom on my K1300S it was night and day starting when hot, it can't be done correctly or you have another problem:-) Peter

I'm guessing a 2008 model is out of warranty already:-) and given the low mileage I can't see BMW splitting hairs over the interval.  Will be interesting to hear what they say.  Typically I understood BMW to give quite a lot of leeway if you have it regularly serviced.  Peter

I'll be having the same dilemma in 2019 so please keep us updated.

The GS 1250 is on the way within a few weeks I think and that will roll down to the RS too I guess within a year.  I've seen reports the current R1200 can be mapped to pretty much 140ps so if the 1250 comes with that as standard I'm guessing it should be able to get over 150ps with a remap.  If they put a decent faring/screen on the RS and get rid of the crappy black and white LCD that is the route I would look to.  Peter
