Sena 30K
« on: May 19, 2020, 01:52:55 pm »
Hi, last year I bought a Sena 30K from the Sportsbikeshop. I couldn’t get voice command to work so they replaced it. I had the same problem with that one but as I was off around Europe I just made do with it. I contacted Sena two weeks ago and after a phone call from them they asked me to send it back to them and they’d send another. Another one arrived...... I’ve still got the same problem! I’ve emailed them.....
Is it just me?

Rick

Hello Rick

It's not just you.
My Sena will never pick up a call. For example there is an option to shout anything (I mean anything!) and it will answer the call. But 'say a command' worked!
After reading forums / contacting Sena and all that, I just gave up.

It seems Sena is good in hardware, but the software seems questionable - for example, their app / interface looks like is 2010!
The last firmware update i did, I tried to do it through my USBC laptop. It didn't like that at all!

Cheers David. Another thing, most of the time it’s just me and the wife on the bike. Bluetooth works well but if we have music on and one of us speaks it knocks off the music but it doesn’t come back on?

If you have the Sena App on your phone you can see and adjust all settings. You may have one of the setting turned off or on  :D

Worth checking.

I have the Sena app. I still can’t get this thing to work! I’m going to try and get my money back if I can’t get any help from Sena.
So what should I replace it with? I need it to...

1 Communicate with my pillion.
2. Play music, Spotify that is to me and the pillion and be able to skip tracks etc
3. Play radio to me and the pillion.
4. Make and receive phone calls if possible.
5. Connect to 660 sat nav.

It doesn’t have to connect to other bikes and it doesn’t have to be Bluetooth.I don’t have a BMW sat nav so the wonder wheel not much use to me. Should I keep it and get a Nav 6?

Guidance please!

My 20S Evo does all of that so the 30K should do too. It makes a difference how you pair each device.
My setup is thus, Tomtom paired to phone, Tomtom paired to 20S Evo as a phone on channel 1, phone paired to Sena 20S Evo as second mobile phone on channel 2.
The setup with your Garmin might and probably will be different, but it's worth trying different configurations.

Edit: I have downloaded the user manual for the 30K and the setup is similar to the 20S. To control music from the jog dial the music device has to be paired to channel 2. If the Garmin accepts phone calls it has to be paired to the Sena as a phone not as a GPS. It helps to write down how you paired each device so you have a reference and can go back and make changes. It can be difficult to remember how you paired each device if you chop and change a couple of times, so write it down.

Another follow up, you may already be aware of the Sena Youtube channel but just in case you're not.

I have found them very useful in the past.

I don't know what vet Ido is. Try all the combinations and see what works, but don't forget to WRITE down the configurations as you go along. I say this because I've been there and done that.

Hey Rick

I've a Sena srl2 (the unit built for Shoei) and my pillion has a Sena 20s

I can confirm that i can do all 1 - 4 on your list... without an issue. 5 - I dont have a Sat Nav (use the phone).
Is it just the voice command you have an issue with? To be honest, I had to turn this off... and i use hey google / siri - which is much better.

You can start voice commands by pressing the Ambient Mode Button - or by saying 'hello sena' - does any of these actions work?

From Sena:
Voice command performance may vary based
on the environmental conditions including
riding speed, helmet type and ambient noise. To
improve the performance, minimize wind noise
on the microphone by using a large microphone
sponge and closing the visor

12.1 Voice Command Setting
(Default: Enable)
A Voice Command setting can be found in the
settings menu, accessible through Sena Device
Manager or Sena 30K Utility App.
When Voice Command is enabled, you can use
your voice to give a command the headset operate
certain operations completely handsfree. If Voice
Command is disabled, you will need to operate all
of the functions using the buttons on the headset.

Oh - just a question.... so you must have two units? whats the other one?
Make sure both units are not paired with the same phone - this caused me issues.

David, it’s a 30K duel....
Ok. I spent hours with it today. First off, I don’t have wind in my conservatory. 2nd, the units are not fitted to the helmets yet. If I press the command button at the bottom of the unit, she does respond. She’s quite good at putting the radio on. If I call her again she doesn’t respond until I press the button again. I can’t make her play music tracks or make a call.
I tried hi google. Managed most things with this. However....when we are listening to music in Bluetooth mode and one of speaks, it cuts the music right off and doesn’t put it back on again after? Only way I can make it return to music is to press the jog wheel when we want to talk and press again to return to music. Not much good really... can someone tell me what settings they have on their app? Maybe I’ve got something wrong there. I just want the music to fade while talking.
