Now I did hear that too I will investigate tomorrow as day off. Thanks for the intel.  Watching the video of mine leaking it does look like it’s being blown out as opposed to just leaking.

Yes, that looks like one of them, pretty sure there were 2, one more blocked than the other.
Other one may bee was a breather for the gearbox.

The ‘jump guard thingy’ does affect the position of the slide rail because it locates in the little valley that the bottom of the slide rail locates in. This means that the slide rail sits on top of the ‘jump guard thingy’ raising it by about 3mm
It’s so nice to be insane. No one asks you to explain

All back together couldn’t get vacuum bleeder to work correctly. It vacuumed ok but when I locked it off it just escaped.  Filled anyway and ran it seem ok but couldn’t continue to temp as still leaking oil ffs, has to be a breather issue. There is a breather buried behind chain tensioner. So tank out etc to get to.

Have to check the breather defo a pressure type issue it could blow out of that seal like that otherwise.

And do ot run the engine up to temp unless you have a good vacuum when you fill it. If it is filled without a good vacuum then the head will be full of air that will never be purged and the resulting hot spots will warp the head and effectively write off the engine or at least the head.

If the vacuum escaped when you tried to fill it, you either had the kit set up incorrectly or the inlet hose was not fully submerged in the fluid container.

I recommend searching the posts of TomL for his tutorial on how to do it correctly and study his photos on where he puts the fluid container etc.

As I said in a previous post BMW really know how to improve things...the early K12's had a bleed nipple in the airway in the top right corner of the head and with the bike on its side stand you could simply filled the rad and header tank and opened the bleed nipple to get the air out. Simples!

So simple they got rid of the bleed nipple on subsequent builds and made everyone buy vacuum fill kits. There's progress see!

I didn’t get chance to use the tube as the vacuum didn’t hold. I tried it a couple of times but gauge just dropped even locking the tap off.  So gave up. I ran it 3 times but only for short periods keeping an eye on the temp and feeling the pipes. I opened bleed nipple on pump and sucked the air until fluid appeared then locked it off. I topped it up manually following someone else’s instructions how to bleed without the vacuum tool. Using the side and top bleed points. Ran engine up but not being able to get it to temp as the cover gasket then started to leak again.

You cannot fill these bike without a vacuum regardless of what anyone else or Youtube or Facebook say.
Don't say we didn't warn you.

I will have to drain it again anyway once I get the replacement tool.  I followed this video and when I turn the tap to lock of vacuum so you can see if you have a leak gauge just drop and air got in.

If it won't hold vacuum, check that you've clamped the breather hose that comes out underneath the bike, sort of behind the side stand. There are two similar looking hoses so it's easy to clamp the wrong one.

It helps to pre fill the pipe from the coolant, then re-charge the vacuum before you start filling the radiator. It also helps to put the coolant container up high; I use a step ladder, and keep it connected after filling while you undo the bleed screws.

AnyM2 is spot on, it took me a whole day to realise that I had the clamp on the wrong hose, I checked it several times, but couldn't see the wood for the trees, I also suspend the fluid reservoir 600mm above the bike by hanging it from the ceiling, and overfill it so that I can bleed the system using gravity after the system's equalised the vacuum.  Down to a 15min job now.

Oh, and I follow the RepRom directions, seems to work ok.
