What Colour Clutch Fluid Do You Have
« on: December 03, 2020, 12:09:19 pm »
As per the title, plenty out there saying it never needs changing and if it does their are options that cannot be mixed, but if you unscrew your clutch res i’d Be interested to know what colour and which k BMW that is.

The things we do for you...

I was about to say black and very gungey. Then I realised that was the rubber seal/wotsit.

Mine on my 2012 1300S is clear. It looks very green to me but I'm sure that is the colour of bottle imparting its green hue.

One reply....interesting, I’ve never taken much interest either....but their are two options which cannot be mixed and if any of you delve into Motorworks listing i’d Suggest it isn’t correct.

The options are either red or blue both mineral and not Dot4,their are other mineral options complicating a situation that hopefully doesn’t need it... ::)

I think you'd get more responses if you removed the word "clutch" from the topic name :D.

I don't have a K any more so I looked inside my maple syrup jar instead. I'd call it a golden colour. I hope that helps.

It's interesting, not the maple syrup stuff.

My bike has only ever been tampered with by three dealers. The original selling dealer, NOG and Cotswold for the last one. The original owner had it on PCP (which I thought was a pressure gauge) and only ever loved it, rode it and smothered it in 3M film.

So, somewhere, we have a colour conflict.

I replaced the clutch line on my K1300GT and bled it through. I obtained the fluid from Motorworks and it was pink.

2006 K12s, Blue Hyspin in mine, refreshed when I changed an iffy clutch line and swapped the slave for an Oberon at the same time.

For the cluch any aftermarket fluid used by any  bicycle owner with hydraulic brakes  is perfect and will do the job.

That should be mineral oil brake fluid. Some cycle systems use DOT hydraulic fluid which is not suitable for use in a K clutch system.

O stand corrected. Any mineral oil used even on bicycles will do.

I used only BMW brand clutch oil for my K1200.

But for my 990 adventure which has magura hydraulic clutch, i use shimano branded mineral oil.
