The HID units that I have (and David etc) use smaller sized boxes and everything (apart from the CANbus eliminator which isn't needed) fits INSIDE the headlamp casing so there are no holes to drill in the weatherproof access cap.

The looms have a connector that fits the bulb-side wiring from the bike and has special connectors for the ignitor (bulb) which fits in the reflector using exactly the same springy-thingy as the normal bulb.

A bit of perforated flubber stops everything rattling around.

Do you have a product link? Sounds interesting... Cheers Gary

Right so these mods fit into the standard bulb holder without having to damage the reflector or fittings... that's much neater than I imagined.

So after all the PC world commentary... A serious question... The mod looks great but given the changes to the new MOT rules are you all going to have to bin this non too cheap mod to make your bikes road legal?

and the 1150GS used nary a drop either  8)

Funnily enough my old GS was the same, I put 120k on the clock and never a drop of coolant... brilliant  ;D

Make sure if you top up you use only the proper mineral oil NOT hydraulic brake fluid

There's 2 types of oil available, pink and blue that are not supposed to be mixed. I once heard K's had blue and R's had pink, however I ordered 500 ml from work and according to the parts catalogue pink fluid was supplied

My K however had blue, so I drained the blue and refilled with pink just in case :D"

Cheers Steve, I was going off Oberon's instructions, they state upright or even leaning away from the sidestand, but I'll go with someone who's fitted one.

My 06 K12 definitely has blue in it, any thoughts on which way to go?... normally i'd dismiss 'I once heard' statements but from your sig strip presume you work in a Motorrad dealer?

Cheers

On this subject one of my winter projects is a strip, clean and rebuild of the front calipers, does anyone have the torque settings for the caliper bolts?

That's not the torque for the mounting bolts (that's in the manual) but the bolts that hold the caliper together.

Oh, and i'd always do the front discs/pads as a pair if replacing.

Cheers.

Followed this from your post, and it looked great so I've ordered one, initially thought it was just me not being used to a bike clutch lever for a few years, turns out it is just very heavy  ;D

One weird thing the dealer said (whilst they were fitting a new fuel strip last week) after I enquired about the clutch being heavy and possibly dragging a little (I'd wondered if it just needed a few ml to top-up slightly) was that the fluid was 'sealed for life'. But reading Oberon's instructions (as I'd thought) you can top it up and bleed it just like any other bike hydraulic system I've come across... odd.

Looking for ward to it arriving, but my abba stand is a Christmas prezzy, so I'll have to wait till I get that before fitting as mine's only got a side-stand.

Cheers Brian,

Was going to get a RepRom... Anyone have a suggestion for a 'safe' eBay seller? Bought electronic manuals in the past with mixed results.

Trouble with riding faster on this thing is that it puts you in to very naughty territory!

I've got an abba stand on the way and some K&N filters and an upgraded clutch slave.

It's also got a mixed bag of tyres on it Battleaxe on the back and a Metzler (I think) on the front, so probably going to get a matched pair of Michelin P3's

Haha, a person in Berks mixing it up 😄 seriously.

I've only had it a couple of weeks, but I'm enjoying it, it has bags more character than the Blackbird I had. That was possibly the dullest bike in Chrisendom... actually no, I did once ride a Deauville, I almost forgot that.

I get the impression it doesn't like tight low speed corners much, but that could be me, I've had a few years off a motorbikes. However it pulls like a train, torque isn't blistering but just goes on and on.

There's a few more vibes than I expected especially right at M Way cruise speed 70ish... Is that normal? Nothing terrible and it evens out below 60 or once your in the very wrong side of 70... nothing terrible, just feels a bit like a hard working twin.

Been without a bike for a few years and saw a lovely, original low mileage K12 at a dealer and decided to buy it instead of another Mountainbike.

Then started looking at forums... really liked the attitudes on here, some realism, genuine love of the bikes and a good dose of humour rather than being all grouchy... so signed up 😊

Have tons of questions as I love to tinker (break) my bikes, had all sorts over the years GS1150, KTM 990, Aprillia RSVR Mille (X2), started as a dispatcher in London many moons ago on a lovely little Bros 650... Have you noticed I love twins... no idea why I've bought a 4... actually, that's a fib, I bought it because I think it's just a handsome brute 😊

You'll also be pleased to know that after just two weeks I've already run out of fuel due to a dodgy fuel tank strip 😂
