Believe that my K12s has the lowered factory seat (one groove at the front) anyone out there who has a standard seat (two grooves) but wants a lowered one and interested in a swap?

I know it's a bit of an achievement getting a K to 70,000 miles. I would be very very disappointed if my FJR didn't get to 150,000 and beyond, a couple of them on the FJR forum have gone past 250,000. One just blew up at 254,000 ish, just sayin'  :-[

I think we should change Rae's forum name to 'K-Troll' 😂

Just like I said, ask for an opinion... 😊

Just to follow up on K1s point I've owned a ZZR and Blackbird and prefer the K12 to both... and the Honda (bought from a main dealer) had loads of reliability problems including really crappy fuel injection and awful brakes 😜

I think you missed my point, you said that people only talk about the negatives and I was saying I talked about the positives and nobody was interested.  ;)

Nope I think you absolutely proved my original point about people loving scare stories on forums. The two people who actually own and run K12s of a similar age and who don't need to justify spending more cash on something else to themselves both love their bikes.

Maybe we were lucky or maybe you were unlucky. They made it for what 5 or 6 years before the tweak to the 13 and carrying on with essentially the same bike, so I don't think every single one can be all terrible.

Anyway it's the age old thing, ask a group of people if they like chocolate cake and some will say yes and some will swear it's the devil's work.

Go have a play, if you like it, buy it, if you don't, don't.

FJR's a nice bike, we use some for the Blood Bikes. You seem to misinterpret the point. If you have a budget and it doesn't run to a newer K13 then there's nothing wrong with a K12.

The FJR isn't quite as sporty in the styling as the K (performance is moot, any big bike is quicker than any of us will ever need) so if Mark's coming from a gixxer then I can see the appeal of a K.

Appreciate you had issues, but that doesn't mean they're all terrible. I've owned two Hondas a Blackbird and a VFR 'with their legendary reliability' and both were a nightmare. The K12 hasn't been.

Like I said, used bikes are a lottery, do your due diligence and go with what tickles your fancy. The K12's not a bad choice.

There's always a propensity to discuss negative aspects. Especially if you're justifying a bigger spend to yourself. No point advising someone to buy a K13 if you have a K12 budget and as I say, mine's great and there are far worse choices of bike out there.

If you're half reasonable with a spanner you can keep most bikes running. I covered a 120k+ on my old GS, and big miles on both of my Aprilia Mille's and Ducati (all just as finicky to work on as the K).

The K12 is the only four I've enjoyed as much as the twins.

Hi Mark, own almost exactly the bike you are looking at and very similar history, ownership mileage. A budget is a budget, and to be honest I've had minimal bother with my K12 and think that there's always a propensity for scare stories on forums.

You'll find it a big change from the gixxer, a lot heavier, but mountains of power and torque. I've ridden a 13 a few times, personally I think it's an evolution but not as radically different as some seem to say and it has its own issues. I also think the 12 is actually nicer looking.

Only real bugbear on mine is the fuel strip used for the fuel guage, it's a poor item and fails a lot (on any model it's fitted to) you just have to get used to using the trip.

The servo brakes are different but very powerful and again I don't have an issue with them.

Fact is buying any used bike is a lottery, even the best kept full history machines can let you down. Have a good long demo ride and take it from there. I think they're a great bike and being slightly unfashionable (everyone wants a giant trailie these days) awesome value for money.

OK, but there's no way you can access the top right radiator mount screw without removing all the radiator fixings to ease the assembly forward on my K12.

The top right screw can be undone by adjustable spanner/pliers (as everyone kindly explained to me). Just grip and twist - takes a few tries.
Then file the edges of it so you can put it back in with a 12mm(?) spanner.

That worked nicely for me. The good news is that because its screwed into plastic, its not a particularly tight screw.

Interesting, on mine there just wasn't enough space to actually withdraw it from the thread hole once I'd got it loose, so had to free off the clips.

Access to the K1300S and K1200S is exactly the same.

Indeed the workshop guide only suggests removing the fan with the radiator completely off the bike.

Didn't somebody say "a swear word is just a substitute for a better word"?

No... Profanities have a rich and varied history and are marvellous fun 😂

Interesting point, I believe the previous owner paid for a dealer fit replacement, so I'll chat with them again.

Also wondered if the unreliability was purely down to luck or if there were any tricks to eking a little more life out of these things?

So, got my K12 back in October and very much enjoying the bike, however It's now on its 3rd dealer fit fuel strip in our short relationship... and the latest one packed up on Saturday.

Is there some sort of proper aftermarket conversion for this ridiculous piece of junk Italian engineering?

I don't mind using the trip but it irks me that the warning light is constantly on and the dash is flashing 'FUEL' at me all day. Plus the 2 yr warranty on the original replacement is up in August.

Cheers

And John Mortimer created Rumpole of the Bailey... EuroKClub... entertaining and informative...

And don't ever bother to faff with the radiator on a K12 😄

I thought that the sex pistols had already won the bollocks legal case Rae  ;D
Not here they didn't,  ;D I would like you to use top line characters if you really feel the need to use foul language. I can usually get my point across adequately without resorting to bad language, I have been know to swear a bit but not in day to day conversation.

But it's not a swear word... British legal precedent confirms this... It just means 'nonsense'...

"Perhaps the best-known use of the term is in the title of the 1977 punk rock album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols. Testimony in a resulting prosecution over the term demonstrated that in Old English, the word referred to a priest, and could also be used to mean "nonsense". Defence barrister John Mortimer QC and Virgin Records won the case: the court ruled that the word was not obscene.[48] It just means "put aside all of that other rubbish and pay attention to this"

All very Orwellian...
