Fitted a K13 one to mine, straightforward, bit of modifying on the heal guard but easy to do with a Dremmel. Super cheap and sounds plenty throaty.

No issues with running or fuelling.

2006 K12s, Blue Hyspin in mine, refreshed when I changed an iffy clutch line and swapped the slave for an Oberon at the same time.

See recent posts in my K1200S thread

Yes saw that FJ that’s what prompted the question, just wondered if someone had actually used a refurb centre and what the result was. I think on your post it just says that he’d do it for circa £250, not if you’d sent off the unit (great post by the way).

I’d done some googling and found them and was after some more info e.g. when he gave the quote was that to refurb the abs block and attached motor or did he want any of the electronics?

I’m also presuming if it’s a refurb of the original part there’s no need for and reprogramming etc when it’s re-fitted?

Cheers

Has anyone actually found or used a company that can refurbish a K12 Gen 1 ABS unit?...

Cheers

Flying trip to shropshire this week, 98000 on the completely non motorway without punctures trip back, somewhere on the good old A303. And my chicken strips are very much smaller as a result. She is shaking her head and chattering a bit when well cranked over, sometimes to the alarm of nearby tin box occupants and occasionally my sphincter, so I am wondering if the head bearing is on it's way again, or the shock is on the way out.  The vibration gets bad around 70 to 90 but lessens as you approach, er, terminal velocity ( rearrange the following numbers into a well known phrase or saying zero one six). Or maybe I was holding on a bit tighter.
You may think the A303 is a hell of a way off route but chasing the welsh borders then looping around east of Bristol overall it was only 16 miles longer than hogging the motorway.

The new battery has apparently cured the non starting issue so theres a flying visit to the Canning Motorbike World due to return the motobatt
I have contacted the abs repair man in Cullumpton who say he can fix the unit and will give a 5 year guarantee for about £250. I have had a look at the service manual and think I can remove the pump, but dont think I can do the reinstall. Mechanically reassembling and  bleeding the system is possible but reading around I think there will need to be some reprogramming of the electronics involved.

Did you get any further with the Cullumpton ABS chap? Looking to get mine sorted and trying to find someone who will do the work.
Cheers

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Re: Diagnostic tool that works on a 1300GT ?
« on: May 26, 2019, 08:59:30 am »
Late to this one, but I bought the OBDLink LX and full Motoscan. Works really well, the previous screen shots cover off functionality so I won't go in to that.

Worth mentioning is the guy who runs Motoscan, he's great, answers emails and will help out with any questions about diagnostic results.

I was thinking about stuff like the ESA diagnostics, I haven't tried but there are various other diagnostic ports (standard OBD not the main round one)  on some the other controllers so wondered if plug directly in to the ESA board for the suspension?

Also worth noting is that the OBDLink LX works with lots of other vehicles, not just the bike

Perhaps we should change the name to the K13 owners forum 😜 Clearly my 06 K12 explodes in fiery ball of doom every time I go out on it 😂

Though not wishing to spend more on a 13 I'm probably bonkers and not fit to post a comment 😎 ;D

There are so many Optimate variations it baffles even the experts...

They are up to no. 7 already with many versions. The BMW CANbus-ready 4 version only comes with a lead for the 12v socket, not the direct battery lead. Other versions are packaged differently.

Mines an Optimate 4, bought from Nippy Normans, it came with both plug and direct connectors...Crocodile clips and a little... I gues you could call it 'spur'... that you can permanently attach to the battery terminals and feed a little plug up toward the headstock presume you could use it for a Garmin or some such if you get lost a lot as well as the charger.

Optimate 4 via Canbus, quick convenient, no problems. The only issue I had was when my old battery died after I'd not been maintaining it when the bike was stuck in my workshop during building work.

If you read the Optimate instructions they state that Canbus charging is really only to be used for top up charging of batteries that are in decent shape.

If it's fully discharged they specifically recommend changing the Optimate setting to Direct Charging mode and connecting directly to the battery to try and recover a heavily discharged or completely flat battery. Once it's recovered (mine never did so new battery bought) and holding a charge you can switch back to Canbus.

Devil is in the detail, so it might be why some have had varied results with Canbus... Though nothing's ever gonna fix riding off with the Canbus plug still attached 😂

Yep, picked a Motobatt... MBTX12U... Direct replacement £45 delivered from sunny Doncaster.

Those Lithium ones are hellishly expensive and from what I can see, if you do let it go flat, that's £300 down the pan. Plus the Lithium charger/conditioners all look to be a minimum of an additional £130+

That stacks up to an awful lot of stock batteries!... I've no idea what the hot start problem is so, whatever it is it's not a factor.

Had a look with the Search Tool (Rae 😄) but didn't find much that didn't veer of at a tangent.

Anyway, hadn't used the bike for 5 weeks as we had builders in and the scaffold blocked access to the workshop so couldn't get the K out... and of course I didn't have the Optimate plugged in.

Managed to recover the battery but I won't fully charge anymore, which in fairness isn't bad, as it looks like the OEM unit.

So suspect a duff cell. Definitely not getting an Li battery so got down to an Exide (who I think make the OEM) and. Motobatt... I'm leaning toward Motobatt as I've had them before and they've been ultra reliable... and they're bright yellow 😊.

Can't imagine there's a lot of difference between the decent brands (Exide, Motobatt, Yuasa)... Any tales of doom and destruction or are such decisions greeted with a shrug and "buy whatever" attitude?

Another BMW first. Everyone else manages to get them to work OK and I never heard of either packing up on the old GS when I had mine.

I can categorically tell you that they did pack up on the GS. My 1150 GS went through three sets of switch gear and heated grips under warranty before they stayed fixed. In fairness appart from that and some paint finish... and some replacement wheels... and a new clutch because there was an oil leak via the bell housing... all fixed under warranty in the early days, it settled down and I did just shy of 130,000 miles on it and still sold if for a couple of grand, so it wasn't a bad old beast.

You are clearly wealthier than me... that'll be the North Yorks postcode 😆

Though I guess if I had fewer Mountain bikes and Road bikes I'd have more spare cash for Motorbikes 😊
