K1200 / K1300 Forum / GS 911 and brakes
« on: September 18, 2023, 11:16:51 am »
hello guys, just a quick question. just had new tyres, when I took the wheels out I noticed the front pads were low, new pads ordered.  I pumped the pistons out to give them a proper clean but was a little too enthusiastic and popped one out.
so having done that I decided to change the fluid, out came the rep-rom but it dosn't mention the ABS, I resorted to the forum and found that it's best to use a GS911 to bleed the ABS pump.
i've got a GS911wifi  from ebay, one slot used but I cant find out if they are compatible with an  iPhone 6s, does any one know please ?
Thanks in anticipation.

Best regards  Mick

(ps, been a costly week, £365 for tyres, £98 for brake pads, £275 for the 911, and £35 for the adapter dongle !)

Hello guys, been down to Cornwall over the weekend on the A39, Devon and Cornwall police are trialing Hi-tech drones to police bikers on this road, I remember getting pulled over at the Maclesfield end of the cat and fiddle in the early 1990s and shown footage from a helicopter supposedly of us but they couldn’t identify who was who so issued us all with a warning and told not to come back. I imagine the tech has moved on considerably since then.

Hello guys, just got back from a spirited ride of 150 mls, got home and parked the bike up to check the oil before heading down to Cornwall next week. The oil was fine but when I started the bike to ride it into the garage I heard  a strange whistling noise, usually after a ride  I let the bike cool down a bit outside before  pushing it into the garage but this time I rode it in and noticed the strange sound.
i couldn't hear it with my helmet on but it was noticeable without it.

I've had a mooch through the net and came across a post on another site about a cheapo needle bearing in the clutch, has anyone on here had issues with a whistle noise from the clutch ?

Best regards  Mick

Hello guys, I went to bike fest at Prescott on Sunday, it was like a time warp. But wile I was mooching round the paddock there was an ex BMW power cup bike. I never knew there was a race series for the K1200R and the one at Prescott was immaculate, now I’m even thinking of getting mine painted the same colour scheme.
Watched it up the hill and it looked great, and sounded great it did the whole hill in second.

Best bike there in my opinion.

« on: May 19, 2022, 02:25:22 pm »
Hello guys, can anyone tell me what these threaded lugs are for ? there's one either side of the bottom crankcase, they're threaded at 10 mm. I was thinking of utilising them as jacking point to clean the wheels, not too happy jacking under the exhaust pipes.

Ok guys, I  think I’ve shagged my new lion battery. I went out last Saturday and did 100 mls or so, put  it away but not on the optimate. Got it out this morning and the battery was flat, 7.6v, so I got the jump leads out, nothing happened except the leads started to get hot.
Got the old battery out ( lead acid 8 mths or so on the  shelf) bike started fine. Spent the day riding and when I got home put the li-ion on the charger, do yo reckon it’s shot ?

Hello guys, I don't know if I'm missing something, I probably am. I tried to open the wiring diagram link in the how to Tech section, it sent me to a google page that said I needed permission and to ask for access, Is this right ?

Some time back the R/H heated grip packed up, I haven't bothered with it and as I am likely to put it away for the winter I decided to check it out. I know there's a common fault with K switchgear but everything else works fine.
The L/H grip warms up fine on both settings, I bell'd out the right side and got continuity so I presumed it was the switch. But I want the Diagram to check out the actual push button and to find the other end of the feed to the grip.
Anyone know of a Diagram other than the one in the help section.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Moving satnav mount
« on: August 07, 2020, 03:40:34 pm »
Hello guys, Iv'e never been keen on the Batman style screen on my R so decided to change it for a carbon one. Once it was fitted it was clear that the TomTom that was mounted on a Ram mount ball in the steering head was spoiling the line of the bike. I solved the problem by making a new mounting plate and drilling and tapping for  a couple of 5mm c/sunk  socket screws which fastened the baseplate of the TomTom bike mounting to it.
The satnav now sits further back and lower and is much less noticeable and it dosen't spoil the lines of the bike.

Hello guys, hope your all well and staying safe.
With the enforced grounding I thought I'd spend some time fettling the bike. I wanted to give the rad a good wash out so I took the fan off and while it was out I took the opportunity  give  a bit more air to the radiator by cutting out some of the plastic shroud.
Here's some pix of what I've done. the first two pix are before the butchering obviously

Hello guys, I've noticed that when I blip my throttle the engine doesn't drop straight back down to tickover, it hesitates at about  1500/1600 before settling down to 11/1200.
Now I've read some where about an Idle control valve that sticks, could that be the problem ?

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Not a problem in the end !

Hello guys, we went up to Knockhill to watch the BSB at the weekend, a round trip of 1000 mls.
A few months ago I fitted a SC project can and had a remap at BSD. The can is shorter than the standard and has singed the tip of the indicator. Now as I was going to use the panniers and I didn't want to damage them, I phoned BSD to see if it was OK to run the standard can with their fuelling. They said shouldn't be a problem and it would just run a bit rich.
The bike performed faultlessly  but we did hit some wet weather on the way home.
Last night I decided to wash the bike and as usual I paid a lot of attention to the radiator. When I wash the rad I give it a really good flush then use an airline to blow out the water, I then warm it up while I dry it. It started fine and I left it ticking over, after about 5 minutes there was a stumble in tickover and a rise in the revs then it settled down again for a couple of minutes then the same thing happened, like it was losing a cylinder but if I gave it a little throttle it picked up. I thought I'd got some water in the leads so i took it out to try and dry it up.
After 15 mins it was still the same and it hesitated when I wound it on from low revs in 6th, which it never has done . I put it away and headed for the forum !! bad mistake,, I read all the nighmare stories about the idling issues. Any way, out at seven this morning and re-fitted the SC project can, took it for a test and hey presto problem solved.
It must have been the standard can fouling the plugs at tickover. I'll have to fit some heat resistant tape to my pannier now.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Stall start problem
« on: March 26, 2019, 09:27:44 am »
Hello Guys my bike is a 2014 R and I have never had a hot start problem, I have, however had an issue starting after a stall. Twice now, after stalling and straight away de-clutching and thumbing the button I had what seemed very much like a flat battery.
Last Sunday I went for breakfast up to the Ponderosa, about 80mls, I stalled the bike in Llangollen high street Hit the button and had a very hesitant turnover, it fired on the next push, but reluctantly. I cleared the traffic, pulled over switched off then tried to start, which it did with no hesitation at all.
Now if this were a heat/wiring issue the problem should have still been there as we'd been queuing for over 15 mins to get through the town, the cooling behaved perfectly. I have read through the posts on hot start problems and I wondered if anyone else's
bike has had the same symptoms ?
The battery is 12mths old but I think I'm going to swap it for an Odyssey one, any reviews on them would be usefull

Best regards   Mick
