NEW MEMBER - PLANNING ON BUYING K1300S
« on: February 13, 2024, 09:31:23 am »
Hi All
I am thinking about buying my first  K1300S , so thought it a good idea to join the forum.
I currently live in the East Midlands , but have recently retired and will be moving to North Wales.
Will be using the K1300S , for a bit of touring  , 1 up and 2 up.
I currently own a Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS and a Ducati Desert Sled.
I have owned a couple of BMW's previously - 17 plate S1000XR and GEN4 S1000RR.
Looking forward to getting a K1300.

Kev

Welcome Kev!

Have a read here, if you haven't already:

It's not a comprehensive list, so do feel free to ask questions.

Hi Kev and welcome to the madhouse that is EuroKClub!

Nice place to retire to now that Herr Brunstrom has shuffled off into his retirement, hopefully to be captured by pirates off Somalia as he sails the world.

If you hop around the forum you will find some interesting posts which may inform your potential purchase. Brian

Hello and welcome Kev. I wish you good luck on your search for a K1300S. There are some really good ones out there that are well worth considering but there are also some potential money pits. Do your homework on here and make a list of all the things to check when looking at possible bikes. One thing on the list, think very hard and make sure the bike is a really good price.  Two things; walk away whatever the price.

... and remember,  the MotorSport is the fastest colour, closely followed by the black! :D
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Be nice to have another K up here in North Wales, whereabouts  you moving too? Great place to ride although the 'safe' speed limit zones are growing and growing, and dont get me started on the 20mph limit :-X

Hi All
Thanks for the warm welcome and advise . Its much appreciated.
I will certainly check for overheating when I start looking at bikes , I guess the hot start issue is a bit hit and miss , as to when it occurs .

We will be moving to Abergele . Really looking forward to it , the roads in Wales sre great for bikes . There seems to be a much higher Police prescence on the roads. I think the new 20MPH limit will take a bit of getting used to !!!!

As the others said welcome to the madhouse,as for the bike one of THE great wonders and I’ve got other stuff as well, but if I was starting again it’d be a 1300r.

I’ve no connection but just finished drooling over the one on eBay at Sheldon Motorcycles but have run out of room  ::)

Welcome Kev, if you want to compare a higher mileage and a lower mileage version side by side, give me a ping. I am in Warwickshire so not to far from East Mids I would think.

Ah - but spotting a bike that has the hot start fix is easy!

You do need to undo the two Torx screws that hold the battery cover on on the 'tank'.
Remove the cover and have a look for TWO chunky red and black leads off the terminals, not just one. That's the hot start extra loom.

Like so:

Getting it fixed costs 1 arm + 1 leg unless you're prepared to make your own loom, which most people aren't. It's also a shedload of labour, so if you're hell-bent on buying a bike without that fix, allow £500-600 costs.

..only assuming, of course, that the bike has the hot start problem.

As you and I know only too well, not all do and not all don't...
