I think (I've not meticulously checked) mines doing late 40s... but when it's out, there's a lot of Motorway where it gets some 'spirited' throttle use.

Regarding the slightly 'gruff' feel, I thinks it's part of the characteristics of the engine, it's not silky smooth like my old Blackbird or ZZR, but I like it.

Mine's due the next valve service, but a few months back they were talking £530, at £383 I'd go for that, even if the rest was just oil, coolant and filters. I've done the clutch, brake and rear drive fluids this year, so that's all good.

I thought so - if that's as bad as it gets I can live with that.

Still going to try a 1300 next week - who knows, I might keep both!

You are clearly wealthier than me... that'll be the North Yorks postcode 😆

Though I guess if I had fewer Mountain bikes and Road bikes I'd have more spare cash for Motorbikes 😊

Just come to the realisation that I can't take it with me!

I think we have a shed full of bikes as well - 5 at last count - did LEJOG and EV1 a few years back until I rediscovered the joys of unlimited power....they've not turned a wheel since.

I've been told you only need one. Like Brian's testicles.

What spec & age is the 1300S, just in interest?
Its always interesting to hear a comparison on both bikes, since only a small percentage of us have owned both.

Brian's testicle is trending....never thought I'd see that in print.

Bike is 2011, blue, unmodified, low mileage, FSH - has ESA, TPMS, EWA, Computer, Quick Shift, one owner

I think it is BMW policy to offer reduced servicing costs for older bikes, over 5 years; which now includes mine I'm delighted to say. Or not, come to think of it  :o

In my experience from my time with the K12, the dealer's are a little backward at coming forward with 'offers'.

Again, in my experience and comparing with that of friends who buy new BMW's every year or so, I think the regular customers get far more preferential treatment then do us tight fisted 'blow ins'.

NOG are currently offering oil services for £99 until the end of December; at least they are for me  8)

That bike sounds like a nice one. Leave your credit cards at home... :D

"Leave your credit cards at home..."

That I'm afraid is unlikely....

I also bought 4 oil vouchers from Allan Jefferies for £100 some time back. Gives me "free" oil on 4 services so that to come off my £383.

Reading the threads on oil that seems likely to be a bargain on these bikes.

I've got a 1300R, I've no idea what the MPG is but the Smiles per Mile figure is huge...... it lives in 2nd and 3rd in the twisties, it's easy to do 400mls in one hit two up.
The rad gets lots of attention due to the forum and I've started to sit with the clutch in and in neutral when stationary, again curtesy of the forum. As with all my previous bikes I will be changing the oil every 4000mls with oil recommended on the forum, mainly because of my lack of mechanical sympathy.
This bike is going nowhere anytime soon only to BSD for a little tweak.
Bike show tomorrow but I know there'll be nothing to tempt me.

Best regards.  Mick

You'll be right about the bike show - I enjoyed the off road bit on the BMW stand - enough to buy a course next year - who knows, the GS may beckon again in time.

You realise that the service intervals are 6,000 miles.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everybody is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Got 56mpg out of my 1300GT over 1200 miles of Pyrenean touring fully loaded and with pillion, but in fairness there was a lot of 'scenery admiring' so speeds weren't generally high although hairpins were many...

Was advised countless times to find the money and go for 1300 over 1200. Would probably have preferred a 1300S but pillion was unhappy about the luggage capacity. TBH the GT has more power than I'll ever need and a high degree of comfort so since whilst I travel 'briskly' I'm not of the knee down brigade I'm very happy with it
