As a young Traffic cop the PC brigade were already having an influence I was told to back off pursuing a Ford Escort RS Turbo in my clapped out Granada 2.8 I had kept it within a decent distance for a 10 mile mile streak around the A628 Manchester to Sheffield road but was told to let it go, this was at the same time we entered a steep climb on a B Road and the Escort just accelerated off into the distance whislt I bounced the grannies valves to oblivion Happy days. He was lucky my other car of choice was in the workshop a 2.9 4x4 Sierra and the class difference between cars would have been far far closer plus every day I was used to high speed blue light runs on some of the best roads around and not much if anything could blow my crew. The sierra was used on numerous occassions on that stretch and the Sportsbikes of the time could not leave it. Of course even at that age the margins of chasing a bike were greater I used to leave at least 200 yards so no body could say he was up his arse pushing the little T..t to his death.
