As above, made by Pirate's Lair in the USA, with full installation instructions.

Bought as part of a package - I wanted the other bit!

Will throw in a "carbon look" fender extender marked K1200 >05 that I bought here; it does not fit Slant K12/13, so I presume it is for the Brick K12 (i.e. K12<05).

£20 posted.

Photos of backrest from original seller.

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Use Car Scanner on K1300GT?
« on: May 23, 2023, 10:25:56 pm »
I have a simple Code Reader for my car - if I get an OBD2 port to 10 pin adapter, can I read/reset codes on my bike?

I presume so, as both use K CAN or whatever (showing off my expert (lack of) knowledge there!).

I doubt I can do resets like ESA (which is what I'm after). Alternatively anyone got a cheaper GS-911?

K1200 / K1300 Forum / BMW CANBUS Charger - funny issue
« on: April 11, 2023, 10:46:04 am »
I have the older (grey) CANBUS charger (71607688864). Has worked fine for years on my K1300GT via the Hella socket near the gear lever.

I have just used the Accessory Socket by the headstock to wire-in a relay to a cigarette lighter socket, to power my satnav, using pins 1 and 3. All works fine.

The charger won't have it! I get the Red error light on the charger.

What happens - turn bike on, then off, wait c.60 seconds. I hear the relay drop-out when the Accessory socket shuts-down, then the charger shows "Error".

If I disconnect the plug (that feeds the relay switch) from the accessory socket, all is well.

I know the simple solution is to connect the charger to the battery, but I like the existing set-up.

Any ideas?

K1200 / K1300 Forum / Rear Axle Corrosion - K1300GT
« on: March 20, 2019, 04:38:42 pm »
Found this corrosion on the rear axle, inside the large centre hole. There are two areas - the obvious one and the orange patch behind it.

(Please click the link, I have tried to embed Google Photos and Flickr links but cannot get the image to show, sorry. Yes, I read the How-to. If a kind person can insert the image for me, and tell me how, I would be grateful, thank you)

https://photos.app.goo.gl/GPy17mQJSuprkfn28

Anyone else had corrosion like this here? It is unlikely to be damage - too hard to reach or even photograph well!

It is not too deep yet so I will repaint it but only after approaching my dealer and arguing that they may have damaged it when replacing the rear disk carrier and rear wheel bearing. Or that the paint is not good enough (joke, given the paint on the final drive....)

Cheers,

A

I'm fairly sure I got this document here (because the Properties say the author is our own slparry!) but I cannot find it here any more.

https://btcloud.bt.com/web/app/share/invite/vR6EI7SMC8

A 42 page with photos guide to fairing removal. I presume K1200GT and K1300GT are the same.

(MODS - if this is already here, please remove this post. If not, please add to the Resources/Various but download/upload it to the Site Google Drive first in case I delete it from my link!)

For Sale / Wanted / WANTED K1200/K1300GT factory screen, preferably Tall
« on: August 16, 2017, 10:06:34 pm »
I have a Tall V-Stream but still get buffeted as I'm too tall for it.

I recently bought a Laminar Lip here which I want to fit to a standard screen. Anyone got one, hopefully the factory tall version?

If yes, please PM me with condition/price etc.

Thanks in advance.

This may turn into a rant.....

My K1300GT had the dreaded switchgear failure last week - no starter button! Managed to bump-start it (I was on a hill!) and get home OK (from that there London).

Rang Wollaston; "bring it in and we'll check it on the diagnostic and put in a goodwill claim". Part is £150, £20 labour to replace. So far, so good.

I then mention I have Extended Warranty - "that's great - you'll only pay £100 excess then".

I ask - "but if I DIDN'T have EW, I'd get some goodwill and my cost might be less than £100".

"Yes, but you have EW so that won't happen".

Am I missing something here - non-loyal, non-EW customers might get more help than me?

(BTW - anyone know what the current status is on switchgear failure repair? IIRC free replacement was available at one time)

The same happened when my rear wheel bearing went at 10K miles (£370!) - I tried to argue that it should not cost me a penny (non-serviceable item, not merchantable quality etc.) and got told how lucky I was to have EW and "only" pay £100. If I was a BMW car owner, I would not expect to pay a penny for a wheel bearing at 10K miles.

I was so lucky the rear wheel bearing failure was diagnosed when they replaced the rear disk carrier in the recall - so they got paid twice.

Note to self - why am I a loyal customer of this brand?

And breathe......

Here - www.gumtree.com/p/bmw-motorbikes/-bmw-k1200gt-nl58-zwe-good-runner-v5c-/1214327759

Nothing to do with me etc. but that is CHEAP. Even has the Top Case.

Scam? Not sure, as he says he has V5C/service history etc.

As above, can anyone confirm that the original 60NM for the old aluminium, cracks-if-you-look-at-it flange still stands for the steel recall replacement?

I presume so but cannot find confirmation.

Thanks all,

A
