my two penneth
I have used an Autocom on my RT, and had problems hearing music clearly over the windnoise, I got an adaptor and used ear buds, problem solved, until I took my wife away..... she could never get over the delay from the Vox grrrrr, although the Autocom used with a phone wired in was a great success (she could butt in as much as she liked, but only I could hear her :D )
later on we tried some bluetooth headsets, chat was fine although she kept complaining that wind noise was transmitted from mine to hers, I found music was not really useable over 50-60mph. on the other hand the ability to talk whilst parking was worth having.
last year we didn't even bother fitting them, so probably not a great success.
move on a while and I have bought a K1200 with Autocom, 2820 already fitted, so I am in the same position as Brian, although to date I haven't even got around to seeing if my old leads fit, this bike has a PTT switch fitted so that might make the old Vox problem go away so we will see.
I like the idea of bluetooth, I don't much like the price, I have never bothered with listening to a satnav, i just include the screen in my instrument sweep, you rarely need to spend more than a second reading it, and I have found voice commands have a habit of occurring after the fact :P
has anyone managed to fit a headset so that the supplied speakers were audible at speed?

Plymouth to Roscoff two years ago with a KTM 990 Adventure - I decided that the crew didn't ratchet the bike tight enough and gave it a few more goes ... bent the side stand and side stand fixing bolt ...the side stand fell off at Carnac  >:(  We stopped at a garage and lawnmower centre and a lawnmower mechanic fixed it in a few minutes at at no cost (he was a KTM fan and all round nice man). The KTM parked at a jaunty angle for the rest of the trip. The moral of this story? I am rambling (age) but it may be something to do with the channel ferry folks knowing what they are about and don't over tighten the ratchet when riding springy 'adventure' bikes.

last year I started to think my RT was looking a little bit more "relaxed" than usual, then outside a restaurant in the Vosges the side stand snapped ! oops looks like the weld had been slowly breaking, looking back on it probably for the last 2 or 3 continental trips :D

The Euro K Club Lounge / Re: Ferry Crossings

I used to be inordinately fond of the Sally Viking Line crossing in the early 80's, the Smorgasbord buffet may have had something to do with that :D  an added bonus was, that with only a limited number of crossings per day, a cheap 60 hour ticket meant catching the last crossing on Friday night, but then not having to leave Luxembourg until a sensible time Monday morning ,rather than 0500 with P and O  :D
more recently, I have found Norfolk lines to be a very civilised option, with generally fewer families and rather more HGV's with volatile loads (leads to more interesting conversations )

I rang both of them when I thought it was just a couple of pieces of plastic, no one had the adjuster as a part, and whole lamp assemblies (especially Xenon) were few and far between.
apparently an almost (if not exactly) identical part is fitted to the RT1200 so if I was a dealer, I would be cannibalising units with broken lenses etc, knowing franchises, they probably throw them in the bin so they can sell full units :(
fortunately my dealer took the hit,not me, nice to see someone with a bit of honour in this day and age, no quibble just sorted.

According to the poorly drawn piccie in my manual, up dips the light more for high load situatuons. Horizontal is for 'normal' loads.

It 'dips' the lamp unit whether you push it down or push it up from the horizontal.

Brian (who rarely adjusts his and has no idea where it currently is)
thanks, dug out my manual and it seems to be showing the lever pointing outwards, just a little nervous as the quoted replacement cost was £675  :o may be over worrying about it.

I am happy as to how to adjust the light, my question is "what is the parked position for the lever?" left.right up,down or pointing outwards?

just got my bike back from the dealer (lost headlight adjuster = new headlight, ouch! just as well the dealer took it on the chin!) I have a question re the white plastic lever, what is the correct position for it? the techies have left it pointing back towards the rider, does this sound right?

haven't used a ferry for a couple of years, have used the tunnel for the last few trips, however every time I sailed to France the ships tiedowns have been perfectly OK, they have even thrown in a sponge pad.

I have stayed in this Hotel several times over the last 10 years or so, its run by a Dutch couple and 95% of its guests are bikers, the roads in this part of France are perfect for biking and are a days ride from blighty (well for an RT anyway :D it remains to see if my old bones can bend into a GT's shape for that long )
