Drive shaft judder!!??
« on: September 28, 2020, 07:54:37 pm »
Hi there, hope you are all well in these dodgy times.
Last 2 sides I've noticed a fairly "severe" juddering on my K1300R. It happens when I'm slowing down to perhaps 2 to 10mph witj clutch pulled in, or just slipping a touch. If increase revs and let clutch out the juddering is there briefly and then goes, but it does feel very clunky/ disconcerting and deffo not right.
Dealer job I'm guessing, but any thoughts re what's going on?
Cheers,
Andrew.

It's not unknown for the clutch plates to warp, it happened on my 12GT.

Oh ok - that sounds less worrying than a knackered drive shaft!! Bikes done 12.5k and doesn't have a hard life.

With that kind of mileage it's unlikely to be the final drive or shaft. Although checking the bolts are tight costs nothing.

Not sure if this is a totally ludicrous question - could you advise which bolts I should be checking please?

Any bolts that connect the final drive and shaft to the frame/engine.

Also, any reason why the kidder only happens at low speed / under little or no load?

Another option put the bike on the centre stand put it in gear and move the back wheel backwards and forward and list and feel for anything strange.

No centre stand unfortunately. Will check bolts and then make a few calls as necessary also👍

No centre stand, put it in gear and rock the bike backwards and forwards and listen for any noises.

is it only doing this under braking rather than slow riding...might be worth checking the brake discs.
i would also check every joint and bush round your drive shaft for play, i think if it was a hardy spicer you would hear it... other members may have more knowledge of that. how is your tyre condition? feathered sides do funny things. as rae says could be a warped clutch but that would be extreme... and would make me cringe a little...
if it was a wheel bearing you would probably get an exciting floaty feeling round corners.
it may be none of the above but that should fill in your evening.

What gear are you in when it does this (and don't say full leathers and a helmet...
