Will The Last K-Bikes (K1600s) Fall Fail OF Euro5?
« on: July 20, 2020, 11:37:33 am »
All new bikes going for approval from 1st of Jan 2020 have to be Euro 5. There is a one year grace period and then ALL bikes sold from 1st Jan 2020 have to be Euro 5. So far only XRs are Euro 5 in the BMW range:

https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/news/2020/april/bike-industry-pushing-delay-euro5

Does make you wonder if there will be a load of pre-registered deals at the end of the year - or a further years extension? Or will a whole bunch of bikes just disappear?

Sold from 2021 Jan yeah?

I'm sure the new F800 tinkers are Euro5... yeah, mentioned in the article. Given everyone knew it was coming I'd expect things like the 1250 engine to be pretty close software wise and sorted hardware wise already.

As the article mentions, and i paraphrase because i'm lazy "...manufacturers knew about this a decade ago... ratified 2013..." I expect they're all similar with anything recent.

We know Kawasaki's approach, superchargers and moving them into more engines. BMW has shiftcam, so that covers the RR too.

The K1300 engine was a what, 2004 vintage? So there's an excuse there. The K1600 engine, when was that designed? Hm, introduced to the world late 2010, so couple years being engineered... done before they knew what was coming, or new enough to have been thought about?

Just seen all the latest from BMW for next year. Mostly colour changes.

Euro 5 bikes now include

  • S1000XR
  • S1000RR
  • R1250RS
  • R1250R

The K1600s aren't   >:(

I think the new 900s are as well, but the GS is not mentioned. I guess you have to assume if the other 1250s are then the GS should get through as well.

Strange. Now that we are out of the EU and all that nonsense is behind us, I expected the mothership would make non-euro models just for us. Was I mistaken?

Hahaha

You're thinking of the Austin Montego. UK replacement for the K1600.

I have just visited the BMW Motorrad site and it would seem that the K1600 GTL and K1600B are still available but no mention of the K1600GT . Strange as in this country at least they sell far more K1600GT's than GTL's and Baggers combined!!

I think a visit to my local dealer will be made when BoJo finally allows them to open their showroom!

Leftover stock? They have probably sold the most popular. A bit like shoe shops selling out of size 9's and only having size 5's in the sale  8)

Pottering past my local dealer yesterday so I thought I would pop in to see what, if anything was happening. As I thought they were still servicing and repairing and also were rearranging their showroom. I tried to open the door so when someone came out to speak to me I asked whether they were still selling the K1600GT. He said they had many in stock and some cracking deals. When I asked whether I could build my own he answered that the mighty K1600GT was not currently available but a new revised model would shortly be on sale. When I asked whether the revision would be the inclusion of an electric motor he said that all he knew was that there is a new revised model on the cards.

I wonder what they have in mind?

I'd love it if my garage said "yeah we got loads but I wouldn't, they're overpriced" :D

So judging by that old cliché I say he just talking words :p. And don't they all have electric reverse motors? :p

Anyway dealers have been responsible for so many rumour mill fuel over the years I'm surprised they aren't selling rumour bread by now.
