Is this a biblical "knowing" Brian?  :D

I often find people confuse "equal" and "the same". Ladies on bikes are equal to gentlemen on bikes, but not the same, in the way that 3+1 and 2+2 are equal but not the same.

I applaud any and all ladies on bikes simply because significantly less than 50% of the biking population is female yet approximately 50% of the general population is female. That's not equal and anyone doing anything to balance that equation gets my appreciation.

I've had no issues with using an HID unit in the high beam. I did swap both to HID and noticed a lag on start up when the bulbs were cold but using a 100w halogen in one main beam location and an HID in the other works really well. That makes best use of the cheap ebay car kit I bough and there's room for 2 ballasts, canbus error eliminators etc. inside the headlight so no cutting or drilling required.

I'm not sure a lock would be of much benefit but it would be easy enough to drill the holes

No lock on these Brian, but, at the price,  that shouldn't be a surprise.

Indeed! I've got two in use at the moment. It does help to have someone to stop them sliding across the floor when you put the bike in but once in, the bike is pretty stable and secure. For the price (£30) it's a great, easy and secure way to hold your bike upright in the garage.

I agree Tom but two things have made me go for the "full kit" option. Firstly, as it's my car and trailer I don't want to be having to discuss damage to bikes with any of the other Old Gits so using the "made for the job" equipment helps show that I'm "doing the right thing".

Secondly, I have a home for all 4 of the wheel chocks after the trip. Two will stay with me to fit in my garage for my own bikes and the other two will go to other Old Gits for the same reason.

Found this and thought it worth sharing

It's not really any different to how it's always been. Previously you'd have been done for "without due care..." if caught wobbling all over the road while programming the sat. nag.

My plans are starting to formulate into something a little more serious.

I don’t plan to go entirely without ratchet straps but my plan is to secure the front wheel sing one of these:

Which will be bolted to the steel of the trailer frame.

I’ll then use the spindle, bolted to stands that are in turn, bolted to the steel of the trailer frame. With both wheels securely held the bike should happily remain in an upright position. As additional security, I’ll then use a set of these:

with ratchet straps to the trailer floor.

That lot should happily secure each bike for the long journey from the UK to Gap in France.

The plan is to have the front wheel of each bike held in a "ride in" type wheel chock which is bolted to the trailer floor. While we will also be using a number of ratchet straps to help support the bike, I had the additional idea of running a steel tube through the rear wheel spindle hole and, somehow, bolting "legs" from the spindle tube to the trailer floor. I though this would give a significant improvement in both stability of the bikes and security, reducing (not removing) the requirement for suspension squashing tie down straps.

I'm using a car trailer to transport 4 bikes (two on front row then two on back row), of which three are K1?00Ss. Brian had the idea of passing a singe steel tube through more than one bike, Doing this while bolting either end of the trailer edges for the front two bikes (both K1300S MotorSports) sounds like a very simple and easy to implement option. Still in the "back of a fag packet" design stage though.

A simple and not too expensive thing to try is to swap the air filters for some high flow ones (K&N etc.). Doing that made a noticeable difference to the mpg of my K1200S

Nice Triumph. The colour does nothing for me but the styling is cool. 8)

It is a strange diameter but it works for me. I'm looking at passing a steel tube through it as part of securing the Old Gits bikes to the trailer we're taking to Gap this year, and a 50mm steel tube will be perfect for the job.

Thanks again.

OK, a slightly obscure question! Does anyone know (or is able to measure) the diameter of the "hole" through the middle of the rear wheel/hub?

Thanks

David
