Tried the Chestnut Farms tonight.  It's pretty good.  Not my favorite, but certainly drinkable.  Looking forward to trying the Powers.  I've heard good things about the Powers - John Lane but they were out of it.

As I understand it 2.42lbs translates to 812Kg right? That's quite heavy!

Flipping Avoirdupois system, what were the French thinking? I measure my wool in pigmy goats-worth. Much simpler.

(I figure starting an argument over how long it took humans to go base 10 for measurement and the hangers on associated with its gradual uptake is a safer topic than the alternative :p)

Don’t you guys use stones or some such?    ;D

I've replaced the lead battery in mine with a lithium cell.  It weighs 2.42 pounds per the spec sheet.  I've run Lithium batteries in my other bikes for the past 6 years.  The RC51 (SP-2) was much easier starting with the increased cranking amps.  My BMW is also much easier to start now when warm than when I got it.  I rode over the weekend and had zero hesitation on re-starts.

Sorry, I do have one more question before I flush the ABS.  All of the reference information I can find deals with the older "servo" systems as on the K1200s.  On those you refill the ABS unit directly with the funnel or other method.  On my bike, I am assuming that as I purge the ABS unit through the OBD2 command, it will draw fresh fluid from the front or rear reservoir depending on which circuit is selected to activate.  Am I correct?  I like going in knowing what to expect.

We have smoke here today.  :o  The government is doing controlled burns to clear away scrub and overgrowth.  It helps keep down wildfires later in the season but makes for nasty sinus issues.

I have in the past carried out many full system bleeds on the brakes of the K1300s, they were good after bleeding but not as good as after bleeding the ABS unit, on two of the bikes the brakes were still soft after doing the standard bleed but were perfect after doing the final ABS clean out with the GS-911.

Well, now you have me thinking I'll go back and revisit this to bleed the ABS circuits.  And here I was thinking it was done.... >:(

I just did a brake flush on my K1300s.  I struggled trying to use a vacuum bleeder system.  So I decided to try speed bleeders.   I received these - Goodridge_Bleeders - and installed them. It made the bleeding process so easy. If you've ever struggled to get good lever feel or do this by yourself, I would highly recommend them. There is none of the open and close the bleeder after each pump, you just open them, pump the fluid through as much as you like and once done, close them off. No air, no fuss.

I also took a look into my Motoscan app and it does have the service function to bleed the front and rear ABS circuits individually. You will need a paid version but not the most expensive one. The instructions that load state that the system is filled at the factory and does not need to be serviced during normal brake fluid changes. I elected to not flush the ABS system for now. I'm interested to know other opinions on that.

In a few weeks the leaves will all be out and the scenery will be better.  Still looks a little wintery in places.

Beautiful day here, about 70 degrees.  It was my first real chance to ride the K1300.  It is so different from my old bikes.   I have to say I am thrilled with it.  There is so much power in every gear.

How To - Tech & Forum support / Fairing Screws - Trivia Question
« on: April 01, 2021, 05:42:29 pm »
So, I'm feeling a little silly.  I'm doing the 6,000 mile maintenance on my K1300s and have removed the side fairings.  As I'm starting to put them back on, I realize that there are a few screws that are longer than the others.  The majority of them are about 1/2" (12mm) but there are some (8 I think) that are longer.  Does anyone know where the longer ones are used?  I should have noticed as I was removing them but just didn't catch it...   :-[

I've been doing some digging.  I'm finding info on doing that for the older servo ABS system that some of the K1200s had.  My 2013 doesn't have that system.  There is not a reservoir under the seat to fill using the little funnel device I've seen.  I'm thinking it may not apply to my model.

I didn't touch the clutch fluid since it's not subject to moisture.  As to the brakes, I've been following the service manual I bought.  It doesn't mention activating the ABS via the ECU.  Do you have more info.  I don't have the GS-911 but I do have Motoscan.

I just changed mine using a vacuum very similar to the one Chriscanning posted.  I used Pentosin Pentofrost NF.  It has the same spec and is listed for use in BMW.  It was also less money.    http://www.pentosin.net/specsheets/Pentofrost_NF.pdf
