Who'd ever have thought that someone would do a filmic wotsit and put the words 'good looks' and 'Bagger' in the same sentence? (@ 1m 48s). All credibility out the window...

I mourn the loss of the stunning K1300 every waking moment of every day (and even some when I am asleep) but if anyone ever tried to convince me that the K16 was the answer to a Sports Touring biker's prayer, this little film will convince them otherwise.

360 Kg? Deep shite...

...and I'm not knocking the big K, honest, the tech is wonderful. But jeez, I can't even pick up the 250 Kg 1300.

All we can hope for is that it may extend the life of the K engine until they get back round to doing a sub-300Kg sports tourer.
Pretty please.

I'm told the K1300S was discontinued because of EU laws? If this is so, what has been done to the 1600 for EU compliance and why not also applicable to the 1300?

The truth is that the bike costs to much to BMW Motorrad. Has nothing to do with compliance, a similar to 1600 ECU would had fixed such an issue.
Embrace the wind.

Interesting, Costas.

In recalls & warranty?
Or in terms of cost to manufacture, versus profit?

Mainly, I think, in terms of 'hassle'....

too much hassle for those customers who got a Friday bike...

too much hassle for the dealer service teams who have to put up with pissed off customers who got Friday bikes...

too much hassle for the country companies with goodwill, warranty and recall issues...

too much hassle for the Mothership...

too much hassle for the advertising and marketing departments trying to overcome the negative publicity...

You get the idea. One pernickety customer with one tiny-teensy niggle is bad enough. Gawd only knows how many of the K bikes have had way too many problems and ongoing problems at that.

The whole thing started with poor design and manufacturing! Remember, BMW were experts at 'developing' their existing designs with great success down the decades.

The K bike was their first foray into totally new territory and the K12/13 was their first radical across the frame four intended to take on the Japanese big four.

Kevin Ash summed it up nicely in his scathing summary of the K12 & 13 here...

...and the article to the work done by Ricardo (the link for which doesn't work on his site) can be found here...

...and it is a free download which you can save and enjoy to your heart's content.

They had the K13 and K16 in Ricardo at the same time - the K13 being a redevelopment of the K12. The K16 was already their long term plan even then.

Not sure why they didn’t put all of the fly-by-wire goodies etc on the K13 then? Could have really modernised the S without taking sales from the K16.

'They' thought all the K12/13 owners 'really' wanted to be wannabe Captain Kirks....

Doh! How 99% wrong can their marketing guys be?
