I have aligned the routes so that Tomtom and Garmin should follow the same route. Set your device to avoid motorways.
I think the routes are pretty much finalised so feel free to download and take a look. To be on the safe side in case I make any last minute changes download again closer to the event.
Tuesday 4th
9.00am Set off from Southport with a full tank please. (Morrisons supermarket right behind the Travel Lodge with petrol station)
11.30am Holmfirth coffee stop 30 mins stop. Where you can find Sids Café of Last of the Summer Wine fame
12.00pm Set off from Holmfirth
1.45pm Bollington pub lunch 1 hour stop.
2.45pm Set off from Bollington.
4.30pm Ilkeston, McDonalds coffee stop 30 mins stop.
5.00pm Set off from McDonalds.
5.40pm Arrive Premier Inn Meltom Mowbray.
This route is a bit longer than our normal but I think it's worth it ;)
Merriment and frivolity to follow. ;D
Wednesday 5th
9.00am Set off from Melton Mowbray
11.10am March Wetherspoons coffee stop 30 mins stop.
11.40am Set off from March.
1.25pm Long Melford Lunch 1 hour stop.
2.25pm Set off from Long Melford.
3.45pm Arrive Premier Inn Clacton Seafront
More merriment and frivolity. ;D
Timings are approximate, obviously ;)
The Plan
Monday 3rd turn up at Southport any time after 3.00pm when we can meet and greet and eat and drink. Wetherspoons is just a few yards along the road from the Travel Lodge and would make a good place to gather. There is an archway next to the Travel Lodge entrance and through the archway is a paved area where bikes can be snuck in.
-
That will be ME Rae for 1 ;D
-
Looks good to me, Rae! I'm in 2, so to speak.
-
Iiiiin 3!
I might even put my noisy exhaust back on as a nice treat :P

Tread softly because you tread on my Rae's dreams.
-
Thank you all for your support, good to see you are in Tom (birthday boy) and Matt I knew that once you had been along you wouldn't be able to resist. Nice to have you along too Rich.
Melanie and I are taking our granddaughter to the cinema today, I'll get around to the hotels as soon as I get a chance.
As some of you may know, grandchildren can be very demanding ;D
-
When I was at school, the sun went the other way. I assume this is as a result of Brexit!! :D
One day, I'll manage to get the time to join you but, unfortunately, it won't be in 2019 (Old Gits and family trip to Canada for 3 weeks will use all my holiday allocation). I hope you have a great time.
-
You'll have to call it 'Chasing the Moon' Rae... :)
-
Or maybe just seeking the sun ;)
-
Hotel details now added to post #1
As usual the sooner you book the more money you will save. Prices will rise nearer the dates.
-
All 3 nights booked, Rae. Excellent logistics!
I declined the breakfast at Southport since it's just a 'breakfast box', and I can see there's a cafe 1 minute away which does real breakfast:
https://goo.gl/maps/pSJnFnqKjUr
Other cafes are available, as they say.
-
Well done Rich, there is a cafe just around the corner, and a Wetherspoons about 50 yards away where you can also get breakfast.
I am also booked now.
-
Please let me know when you have booked the hotels so that I can keep track of numbers, thank you.
-
I'll be there!
Unless I win the lottery when none of us will be there cos we'll all be in Barbados 🇧🇧
If I can't find the tent I'll book a hotel. Maybe :D
-
Tent, tent? Go and wash your mouth out :o
-
Warm beer...no head (OK, OK, no froth on the warm beer) what's not to like in a tent...Matt?
-
Well done Rich, there is a cafe just around the corner, and a Wetherspoons about 50 yards away where you can also get breakfast.
I am also booked now.
And there's a flipping model railway in that park!
Maybe I should bring some kegs of my home brew! Actually after several hours on the bike it'll probably explode and kill us all so maybe not!
And now I have booked booked and booked hotels.
-
Post #1 updated with some more details. I have added bike details, so please let me know what bike you will be riding.
-
I just thought, reading the new chap K1600 post, if I bought a Moto Guzzi V7 and turned up on that I wouldn't be able to keep up!
Not that I'd get rid of the K for that mind you... but still... some bikes are slow. k.
-
Just giving this a bump to remind people it's here.
-
I'm looking forward to it Rae :)
And I've moved on to wanting a super/hyper naked now... this thread is also a log my my ridiculous brain changing its mind every hour.

It's not what you ride it's the way that you ride it. ;)

Let's try and keep on topic peeps. That is a thread on it's own.
-
OK Tom. I'll bring the Honda 250 and see how you cope with 25 bhp 8)
-
The video I made of last year's edition seems to have generated more traffic than usual between the 22nd and 26th of Jan, generated by youtube searches. Anyone here any idea why ?

No idea.
But pop the link back in here, as an advert/dissuader. And watch the hits rocket. 8)

I watched it once in that period. Maybe I'm an 'influencer'! Or influenza.
Sudo's video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60ju5ZLa2Qs&feature=youtu.be) of our trip last year.
-
Excellent. Watched it all over again, Philippe. Are you coming out to play this year?
-
Small chance I will, mainly because of other plans.
Moreover, there's now your Brexit : probably long waiting queues at the ferries to be expected (I think I'll at least first have a look at what this results into) ? And as I'm not riding my K1300S any longer, I may feel a little more "outsider" also because of that :)
-
All bikes welcome as long as it can hit triple digits :o

Since we're voluntarily riding German bikes, I would expect all members to be pro-Europe. I'll park it there, in case Rae shoots me for disturbing the thread. :-X
Would be good to see you if you can make it over.
-
Do we have to hand 'em in if we ever leave the EU? I mean, not very British is it. :)

Well, better than nothing : you'd still have Triumph. Makes me think of this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7vl5JX4vxk&feature=youtu.be&t=1115) (images of a trip I did in 2016 in Wales and the Peak District)
(I myself, on the contrary, would have to do it with Flandria - a bicycle brand, IF it's still around...)
-
Do we have to hand 'em in if we ever leave the EU? I mean, not very British is it. :)
I believe we have to rename them to AMW, Alsatian Motoren Werke.
I hope you can make it Sudo, and you never know, bikes might get a fast track at the borders :P.
-

V amusing!
-
Well booked in at Melton Mowbray and will be joining everyone at Rivington on Tuesday, that's two of us Bob and myself, see you all there.
Tom
-
Thanks Tom I have updated post 1, anymore for any more?
-
Got the 5th and 6th off work so will join you all on the Wednesday somewhere around the Peter-Bog area.....Ady
-
Good news Ady, good to have you onboard. The Hippodrome March would be a good place to meet as we are stopping for coffee there and makes less of a moving target timewise. I'll update post #1
-
I (and my friend Terry) have booked. Looking forward to joining you all in June.
-
Thank you Glen I have updated the list.
-
As the group grows in size it becomes increasingly more difficult to keep it together. We may have to employ the Marker / Second Man Drop Off System, which is explained here
https://eurokclub.bike/index.php?topic=3541.0
-
Slow riders control the speed of the group and fast riders get to mark most of the corners.
-
Are you coming on the Wrinklies trip Tom?
-
Slow riders control the speed of the group and fast riders get to mark most of the corners.
Surely everyone gets equals turns at marking.
Or are you allowed to overtake within the group?
-
I covered overtaking, but yes overtake as you wish, all it means is you get to be second man / marker sooner.
I don't think any of the group are slow riders.
-
Are you coming on the Wrinklies trip Tom?
I might pop along and meet you at your lunch stop at Long Melford. Do you know where you are stopping for lunch?
-
It's marked on the route Tom, can't remember the name off the top of my head.
-
Why have you got the name on the top of your head ::)
-
So that avian wildlife have something to look at when I'm out and about (on foot) ::)
-
;D
-
I have updated the route download links in post #1 to include a meeting point for Tom K1300S and his mate Bob.
-
Having survived my off-road training day, I'm now booked, despite the bloody Premier Inn booking system telling me, twice, that my session had expired and to start again. If it hadn't worked the third time, I wouldn't bloody stay there >:(
PS Just need to see if I can find the bike now... ::)
-
Bike is getting sorted as regards the rocker cover gasket intermittent leak in a couple of weeks so I'll be all set... provided I survive CSS that is! (Those cascading style sheets can be murderous, right @richtea! haha hehe omg etc :P)
-
Give my regards to Garry on CSS, tell him from the extremely fast orange K rider, in Greece.will meet him again on 25 May. .
-
Rae, I realise that you have probably sorted your route and stops out to suit all by now, however I was just taking a look at it (for my own interest) as in some places it passes quite close to home, and thought that from experience locally, Krazy Horse (just north of Bury St Edmunds) might be an interesting lunch stop for you all on the second day. It is very close to your present route and would position you for Bury St Edmunds and the A14 afterward.
When you leave the A11, there are some eight miles of wonderful wooded twisty roads leading to it and the venue itself has tarmac parking, good food and some really interesting bikes to see (they are dealers for Norton, MV, Indian and a few smaller makes).
Obviously just my suggestion and probably too late in the day, however I thought that it was worth mentioning.
-
Thank you for your suggestion, I will take a look and see what I can do. Will you be joining us?
Edit: I have taken a look and could make it work.
-
I have taken a longer look at the suggestion and it's worth remembering for the future, however it would mean shuffling the coffee stop and a fuel stop, so on this occasion I will leave the routes as they are. Thank you for the suggestion though.
-
You're very welcome Rae. I might well come out to join you at the lunch stop on the second day, providing that nothing prevents it!
-
What could prevent it ;D how could you resist a ride with the Wrinklies ;)
-
Since I managed to (almost) give up work at the end of 2017, there seem to be more things that need my attention immediately than there ever were when I owned the business. I suspect that it has something to do with perceived "instant availability" than any real changes though!
As I like to eat regularly, I cannot protest too much however.
-
Chop, chop, busy, busy, work, work, bang, bang!
https://thisquirkylife.com/2013/07/18/chop-chop-busy-busy-work-work-bang-bang/
-
With just under two weeks to go, there is still time to book if you are interested in joining us.
-
For MyRouteApp users, I have added route links to post #1
-
I have had to make a slight alteration to Route 1 due to a road closure in Southport.
The download links have been updated.
-
It was good of them to tell you Rae 8)
-
Oh yes, I'm bezzy mates with the Southport traffic planners. Although I did have to promise them that the drinks are on you ??? ;D
-
I think I might be busy that night 8)
-
I think I might be busy that night 8)
Yeh, busy buying the drinks ;D ;D
-
Membership fees will rise... 8)
-
The weather forecast is looking favourable for our little jaunt, but as we all know that could change :-[
-
...especially now you've mentioned it 8)
-
...especially now you've mentioned it 8)
It might change for the better ;D fingers crossed.
-
I suppose I'll have to start trying to variously:
1. remember what machine has my tomtom software
2. remember how to use that other excellent mapping software I was directed to last year
3. get it wrong when Bri or Rae fiddles with the tomtom on the first day and points out i installed it upside-down
Will we be popping into an authorised Arai retailer by any chance? :D
-
If you can find an Arai dealer along the route Matt let me know ;D
Remind me which Tomtom you have.
-
TomTom Rider 400.
-
TomTom Rider 400.
You can download the route in the normal way (whatever your normal way is) or I can bluetooth the route to the unit when I see you.
Or you can look on Youtube at the many videos about getting routes onto your Tomtom.
-
Arai? But you've got a $10 head, Matt 8)
-
Thanks Rae, yeah i'll get it no worries, just delaying thinking about it until I survive the Brands Hatch fun this week :).
Getting excited about the next couple weeks, thanks so much for your organising boyo :).
@Brian: git :P

If he doesn't get the route before the off, you won't be meeting up! This is Matt we are talking about... 8)
-
As long as he makes it to Southport on Monday we'll be golden.
-
...asking a lot...
-
It'll be easy, it's somewhere in the south given the name, so I can't go wrong! :P
Don't know why you worry so!
-
South? Port? It must be near Portsmouth ???
-
They don't hand our degrees in Wales to just anyone you know 8)
-
Enjoy your trip.

I might pop along and meet you at your lunch stop at Long Melford. Do you know where you are stopping for lunch?
Tom, its the Cock and Bell, if you are still thinking of joining us, there is a car park at the rear. We should be there by 1.30 pm.

A play on the pub name, Rae - maybe a bit too obscure/rude.

A little deep for some methinks 8)
-
Look forward to seeing you all at the Cock and Bell, Long Melford.
You could be en-route for a formation of Dakotas which are departing Duxford at 13.40 - 14.05 with a Colchester flypast at 14.21.
-
Whoever thought that a humble Dakota would end up in a Formation Display Team.
The Red Ink-Pellets anyone?

Over thirty of them. The greatest number of Douglas C-47 Skytrain and Dakota aircraft in one location since the Second World War.

My Wren smugglers might be going off Clacton pier, I’ll be taking the piccies and holding the towels 8)
-
I thought you had all fell asleep ;D
-
I've got Monday & Tuesday free next week so thought I could join you if that is ok.
I would be able to ride with you until late Tuesday afternoon.
Is that ok with other peeps on the trip.
Philip.
-
Feel free Philip, what are your plans. will you be staying with us at Southport.
-
Hi Rae, yes, booked in for one night at Southport, no breakfast.
Look forward to meeting everyone Monday evening for some grub & a few bevies at Weatherspoons.
-
OK Philip good to have you along. Check in time is 3.00 pm I am aiming to be there at check in time.
I'll PM you my mobile number so you have a contact.
-
Not sure if I will be there for 3PM, but i'll give you a call once checked in.
-
You can use your psychic powers to guess where I will be ;D ;D
-
See you at Weatherspoons then ;D
-
If you get there before me could you get a beer in microwave ready for me 8)
-
I won't manage 3pm either, but probably there by 5pm-ish.
-
I'll be there about 5 hours after I set off, depending on how much I manage to stick to motorways.
-
I'll be there about 5 hours after I set off, depending on how much I manage to stick to motorways.
You riding even slower since the CSS then? Motorway from Reading to Warrington is about 2:45. Another half hour Sarfpoort innit.
Unless you meant, NOT stick to motorways.
Get the beers in Rae, I'll be there at 3'ish 8)
-
Motorway? Madness!
I'll be going cross-country, hence the late perfectly timed arrival. Not sure which way yet - directly through Liverpool, or up the Peaks and over the top of Manc.
Decisions, decisions...
-
Just had an email from Tom, he has had to cancel.
-
TomL or TomK1300?
-
I've got the tinklings of man flu it feels like this afternoon. Or maybe I inhaled wood shavings from the table saw.
-
Vick's First Defence will stop it dead in its tracks. Honest. Entire UK cycling teams are on it permanently 8)
-
TomL or TomK1300?
Tom K1300, TomL is just meeting us for lunch as far as I'm aware.
-
Tom's obviously seen the weather forecast and I'm swapping the summer gear for the wet weather stuff :(
-
The weather looks to be showery on Tuesday but OK for Wednesday. Que sera sera :-\
-
Man flu update: at this rate I'll likely miss tonight and join up sometime tomorrow.
-
Man flu update: at this rate I'll likely miss tonight and join up sometime tomorrow.
Well, I don't want it so I'm re-packing to include the First Defence!
Get well soon... 8)
-
I've got a hang nail, I might not make it :-\
-
Just leaving...frozen shoulder and Diverticulitis notwithstanding 8)
-
Har har!
Ok I'm feeling better, might drop in home on the way up so mother can give me some Calpol.
Getting lunch and will leave after that.
-
Arrived home a while ago, wet. :(
But was great meeting everyone over a few beers, & even better riding today, despite the weather. :)
After I left you all at the top of the Cat & Fiddle, the rain just came down harder & harder all the way home.
Hope you all had a drier time & now settled into your second hotel ok.
Ride safe for the rest of the trip, have a good time & see you all soon.
-
Er, well, no!
I mean no, the weather was just as wet for us lot and we definitely need to find somewhere with wayyyyy less traffic.
But, you did miss a good curry this evening 8)
-
Nice to meet you, Philip, and a fab ride over to Holmfirth!
-
If anyone who is on the ride picks this up in time, please let me know if you are still going to stop at Wetherspoons in March for your morning break today. If so, I'll ride out to meet everyone.
-
I will be meeting them up at Long Melford.
If Rae said that they will be stopping at Wetherspoons in March then I expect they will do so.
-
Many thanks TomL, I wouldn't be able to make it up there in time now (have just seen the post) and I am due at a classic gathering later this afternoon, so unfortunately I won't meet them all this time around.
-
Hi Colin,
For your future reference, if Rae organises a run and says we will be 'here' by 'then', then we WILL be there by then.
That's just Rae's way 8)
Sorry we missed you. Brian
-
Brian, many thanks - that is useful to know, as I often have the opportunity to come out at short notice. I had thought that with yesterday's comment in respect of traffic and weather, the trip might have been cut short or re - routed, although until a few minutes ago, the weather here in mid - Norfolk has been fine today and was good for most of yesterday.
I hope to catch up with you all on another occasion and hope that you have a good (and dry) journey tomorrow - again the weather seems good locally, so hopefully it might hold out for you all as well.
-
We Wrinklies don’t cut trips short, life's too short for that 8)

The pretty bikes get to park out front ;)

Good to meet you all today. I had a great ride back home. The ride out to Sudbury is my favourite tyre scrub route.
Hope you all enjoy a good ride home tomorrow.
Well done Rae for organising.

Awaiting reports photos etc

I would like to give a big thank you to all the attendees for making it yet again a wonderful few days.
I left Clacton at 9.00 and was home by 3.00, 220 miles covered with a couple of coffee stops.
Richard was the resident photographer and I'm sure he will post up some photos soon.
-
And I'm home! Brian, Rich and I went together for a while. Then at our coffee stop and romantic sit-down my bike realised it'd been drinking oil. So off we went to the temporary home of North Oxford BMW for some oil. The old place is being refurbed using all the money BMW saves by not fixing bad designs :p.
MK sure has a lot of roundabouts.
-
Great news . Great adventure as always I may add.
Matt what year is the bike?
-
2015 matey. I've done about 1,000 miles in the last couple of weeks with CSS and the trip. It was max before and intermittently min today. So 0.5 in 1,000 miles/1,600km. BMW have been happy with far worse hehe.
Edit: oh! But Brian and maybe Rich saw occasional smoke. Rah.
-
Yep thanks one and all for yesterday, always enjoy meeting the people new and regulars on these trips, and Denis , what a character, he told me he has a sister up in St Neots which isn’t far from me and would I like to meet him up there for a drink which would be great. I will be moving heaven and earth to do the complete trip next year so cheers Rae, Rich, Glen, Terry,Brian and Matt till next time ....... Ady

Here we go!

Sunny Southport: parked up below the Travelodge. 'Don't worry, the kids probably won't mess with them.' Or words to that effect from the receptionist. Eek. I slept with the window open, listening:

Was Age UK was sending us a sign with a sign?

En route to the restaurant. The normal entrance was closed:

Being serenaded. Luckily the entertainer was at the other end of the restaurant.
The food was excellent - better than you might expect for the Restaurant At the End of The Amusement Arcade.
Properly homemade, as recommended by Dennis, who is local to Clacton:

An excellent trip, notwithstanding a bit of rain, and a bit (well, lot) of northern Manchester. Thanks Rae!

Just looked up Rochdale. Is that the Rochdale 10cc is mentioning in that song of theirs ?
Apart from that : I most of all liked the photographs with the 3 motorsports next to each other : nice ! Thát's how a motorbike is supposed to look !

There's only one Rochdale, Philippe. It's not pretty, I promise. Think of the worst suburb of Antwerp - that's Rochdale. However, the hills just beyond are superb.

Oh well, if you insist (even though TomL and Matt got there first with better photos), here's another version. Can't get enough of them!

That's what happens when you let 12 year-pld Matt ride along, drives the average age down dramatically ;D

Being Tail-End Charlie, I tried to follow Richard and Matt into the parking space (plenty big enough for four bikes) beside Tom who was already there. But no, the 'pretty things' took up more space than three Gold Wings and forced me round the back with the other black bikes. They’re just jealous...

The other bonus with having Matt along Brian is although we know our body’s have aged, our minds have not that’s why he fits in so well with us all😁👍

Your not wrong Brian, the air was thick with envy because as everyone knows motorsports look fast where as the black ones are fast 👍

Actually Matt's the brother of Dorian Gray.
