...I want to be a cycle race outrider.

You know - the ones that hammer past clearing the road and stopping the traffic at the junctions.
Fresh air, good rides, you get to wave at the passers by, with full use of gratuitous blues & twos just to amuse the crowds.



Ovo Womens Tour - well worth a watch if you can get out for 30 mins:

They zigzagged across the hills near my house (the ones we rode on the Wrinklies).
I cycled halfway up Edge Hill and watched (pic below), rode across the zig, watched again, and then rode across the zag to Burton Dassett Hill, and watched them a 3rd time.
Trouble is the last part is the steep hill through my village so I'm utterly knackered! The women went twice the distance, and they'd already been riding 2.5 hours.
V fit. In the polite sense.

Our IAM group marshal the Brian Robinson Cycle challenge every year, it's a bleedin' pain but brings in some dosh for the group.
Outriding is not all it's cracked up to be  :-[

I've seen more meat on a butchers pencil than that lot. My type of bicycling involves a K1200 at the end of my throttle. :P

Not the same kind of cycling, but Sir Chris Hoy's legs are massive.. He couldn't buy of the peg trousers unless they were elasticated I'm sure

A chap I used to ride with years ago in Dorset joined the Met. and ended up in the Special Escort Group. Suffice to say I couldn't keep up with him, even on a GPz900R.

I think it was an R80, or maybe an R100RT so a push bike might have been quicker. He also had one of the first FJ1100s, White/red& blue with 16" wheels.

And I espied the initials NEG on some of the motorbikes.
It turns out that NEG is the National Escort Group , i.e. motorcycle marshalls:

Dry-ish at first, but see the grimness in the distance. Wrinklies 2018 went down this same hill, about a mile from my house - remember?:



Winner Kasia Niewiadoma on the 3rd and last climb of Burton Dassett Hill. Ouch:

The NEG (National Escort Group) is run in part by an acquaintance of mine, Eon Matthews who also runs the yearly Blind Veterans Ride from Moreton in Marsh to Brighton.
