MyRouteApp Routing Challenges
« on: March 09, 2024, 07:18:57 pm »
Dear fellow humans. I'm encountering this useful error message (it isn't useful to my brain sorry) when trying to use OpenStreetMap mode in the route planner. I've already got the layer as OpenStreetMap, but when I click from HERE mode to the OSM one I get the below.

I'm sure I'm missing a menu somewhere, I always do on this!

I need to use OSM mode for this route as it is to take me down Byways Open to All Traffic, where normally it would route around it (I has a new bike see).

Any ideas?

Hi Matt. Well, this is a funny one. MyRouteApp thinks that motorcycles can't ride off road (or off proper roads, as I see you're going down BOATs). So when you selected - naturally enough - Motorcycle mode when creating your route, it precludes the use of the OSM engine. Weird hey, but so is your face.

Thanks Matt. That is strange! I mean, even if not going 'off road' it would seem OSM is just incompatible with motorcycle mode. Well, lesson learned. I'm a car I'm a car I'm a big metal car!

From a mickey mouse test these 3 settings seem seems to do the right thing for me:
- TomTom or HERE
- NOT Offroad
- Bicycle

OSM instead of Garmin/HERE didn't work.

Hi Matt

I always use car mode now, in the past i had problems with motorcycle mode and it seems like the problems are still there.

Yep. Thanks guys. I try to keep the mindset that "change is good" and try these new features. Given I have no idea what Motorcycle mode is supposed to do and only saw an actual explanation for the motor home mode, I'll leave it another few years.

Motor homes. I hope it directs them all to.. central London.

Of the 2 routes I did for you, the first plotted the BOAT correctly but the second one simply gave up at the gates….

I use a Montana 600 with OS mapping.

I plotted the routes on Basecamp.

Hi Matt,

I've got one a bit like that...

Somehow I ended up being treasurer for the West Midlands TRF.

OutdoorActive is better for plotting routes. You can subscribe and get OS maps, but it also give you the option to turn road tracking on and off per segment, so you can use the auto routing for most of the time and just use direct point to point routing where you need to.  You can export the planned route as a GPX and import to MRA as a Route/Track.

... and it's a CRF 250. The L / Rally versions are possibly better trail bikes but the X is a fair bit lighter so I got that assuming (correctly) that I'd be picking it up quite a lot.

Yes. The Rally carries a lot of weight high up; steel tank, steel 'nav' tower etc.  Riding off-road alone became a non-starter for me.

There used to be a sticker on the carbon bash plate which read 'If Found Please Turn Over'.

Lost it somewhere in Yorkshire I think.
