Neck Braces - Does anyone wear one on the road?

Although quite common for MX riders you rarely see people wearing neck braces on road bikes although Leatt and others have been making a road version for many years. They seem to be very effective at reducing upper spine injuries.

I think my Helite Turtle 2 includes a limited neck brace function if it's activated. Does that count?
Correct rear brake use is scientifically proven to shorten stopping distances in EVERY road situation.

Is it possible to perform shoulder checks with a neck brace on?

I don't see MotoGP riders wearing them, possibly for the same reason as David - airbags do a good job for very infrequent activation.

But MX riders would cause them to go off every 5 seconds!

It's an interesting point...and F1 and Rally drivers use them, not necessarily for impacts but for the high and never-ending G forces during braking, although strictly speaking, HANS devices are not the same thing as simple neck braces.

Itchiboots wears a REV'IT Segur neck brace both on and off road, £170.

Doesn't seem to affect her head movement judging by the swivelling chin-camera shots.

It's a cheap enough safety gadget but there doesn't seem to be much data on the need for one, ie how many upper back/neck injuries are caused in bike excursions? Most of the headlines are about deaths or lower limb injuries.
